Biden to mark anniversary of 9/11 with trip to Alaska

President Joe Biden will not be observing 9/11 at any one of the three sites associated with the 2001 attack on American soil that took nearly 3,000 lives.

Though Biden has previously marked the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attack at Ground Zero in New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. this year he will reportedly be visiting a military base in Alaska.

“On Monday, September 11th, the President, Vice President, First Lady, and Second Gentleman will all mark the 22nd anniversary of the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001. The President will travel to Alaska to participate in a memorial ceremony with members of the military and their families,” the White House said in a press release Monday.

“The Vice President and the Second Gentleman will participate in a commemoration ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City,” the release continued. “The First Lady will lay a wreath at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial to honor the lives lost on September 11th.”

Though he will not be at any of the three sites to mourn the 2,977 killed on that day, Biden is not the first president to observe the day from a different location.

“In 2015, President Barack Obama participated in a moment of silence on the White House lawn before going to Fort Meade in Maryland to recognize the military’s work protecting the country,” the Associated Press noted. “In 2005, President George W. Bush marked the anniversary on the White House lawn.”

The White House press release also confirmed that the president will be traveling to Hanoi, Vietnam on September 10, 2023. “While in Hanoi, President Biden will meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other key leaders to discuss ways to further deepen cooperation between the United States and Vietnam.”

Social media erupted over the announcement of Biden’s plans for the 9/11 anniversary.

They want as few people as possible to hear him try to relate himself to the tragedy of 9/11 by saying, “One time I lost control of my corvette and almost ran into a building myself.”

So, instead of flying directly back to VA or NY from Vietnam, Biden is going to circumnavigate the globe and spend 9/11 in Anchorage, Alaska.
