Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien that was previously deported ten times, Miami Sector Chief Patrol Agent Walter Slosar said in a Monday tweet.
The Mexican national, who had a criminal record, was convicted and sentenced to prison for 10 years, Slosar said. While illegal migrant encounters at the southern border topped a record 2.2 million in fiscal year 2022, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removed roughly 72,000 illegal aliens, compared to roughly 185,000 in fiscal year 2020 when migrant encounters were lower.
Authorities arrested the illegal alien in Tampa, Florida, according to Slosar.
“Great work by our agents & local partners,” Slosar said of the arrest.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has limited ICE arrests and deportations to illegal aliens deemed to be risks to national security, border security and public safety.
“Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) is focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement that protects the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of our communities and the integrity of our immigration laws,” an ICE spokesperson recently told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Entering the United States without authorization is a violation of federal law, and those who do so may be subject to administrative arrest, and in some cases, criminal prosecution,” the spokesperson added.
A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the Miami sector didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
