When it comes to deteriorating cities that have been completely destroyed by Democratic Party politicians and their policies, there are few sadder examples than the streets of Philadelphia, now a drug-infested, crime-ridden hellhole with some areas as dangerous and disgusting as the worst third-world slums on the planet.
One area, in particular, stands out as the embodiment of the decaying historic locale. The Kensington neighborhood has become notorious for being an open-air drug market with stoned junkies stumbling about like zombies from “The Walking Dead” as exhibits of the depths of human despair. Some of them were captured on video by Fox News Digital.
In a new Fox Digital Originals video, a walk down Kensington Avenue is a stroll through drugs, degradation, defecation, and despair as the camera shows dozens of drug addicts passed out on the sidewalk, shooting up and shambling through filth and squalor as cars pass by, just another day in the “City of Brotherly Love.”

The area has become an international bad example as an area that is among the hardest hit by addiction to the potent drug Xylazine, or tranq as it is more commonly known which is a potentially lethal sedative used to amplify the effects of other illegal drugs including fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin.
One of the worst characteristics of tranq is that users often experience gruesome wounds that become infected, sometimes so badly that they can lead to necrosis and even amputation. Fox News Digital observed drug users who “were passed out on the pavement, covered in scabbing or oozing flesh wounds from xylazine with fresh blood running down their arms from injecting themselves with needles.”
One user who went by the name of Gene told the outlet that “he had just gotten out of the hospital after unknowingly taking xylazine. He had bandages on his legs covering multiple flesh-eating lesions covered in maggots.”
Fox News showed some graphic pictures of the wounds of Gene and another tranq user in sickening detail on their website, but viewers should be forewarned that the images are not for the squeamish or faint of heart.
“Duffy, another drug user, had a gaping wound on his arm from injecting tranq. He grew up in Kensington and has never seen the effects of drugs as extreme as xylazine’s,” the outlet reported. “It’s the worst I’ve ever seen it.”
In a sad testament to modern times, one druggie told Fox News that many of her friends have perished from overdoses as drugs recently have become more potent and lethal and that life was better back “when it was regular heroin” that was prevalent in the area.
“I’ve lost a lot of good friends,” said Maggie, a 30-year-old drug user. “People are just dying all around.”
Before tranq was rampant, the area was already ravaged by fentanyl. Fox News cited statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that more than “200,000 Americans have overdosed and died from synthetic opioids like fentanyl since 2020” and in Pennsylvania, “one user died of a drug overdose about every two hours in 2022, with nearly 80% of those deaths involving fentanyl, state data found,” according to the outlet.
A more shocking video taken earlier this year also captured a slice of life in Kensington with tranq “zombies” in the streets.

According to the CDC, “An animal tranquilizer called xylazine is increasingly being found in the US illicit drug supply and linked to overdose deaths. Xylazine—which is not approved for use in people—can be life-threatening and is especially dangerous when combined with opioids like fentanyl. Due to its impact on the opioid crisis, fentanyl mixed (adulterated) with xylazine has been declared an emerging threat by the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy.”
