U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz theorized on Friday that he could potentially one day be made attorney general if former President Donald Trump is reelected to office.
He offered the suggestion while speaking on Newsmax about the ongoing GOP investigation into President Joe Biden and his youngest son, Hunter.
During the discussion, the topic of criminal referrals popped up, and in response, Gaetz said that it’s still worth it for Republicans to file criminal referrals (be it for President Biden or Hunter) even if the current attorney general does nothing about it.
“I don’t ascribe to the theory that we just have to surrender sending criminal referrals because somehow Merrick Garland will never prosecute them. For many of the crimes that we are observing, the statute of limitations is five years,” he said.
Listen:
“And so we could send criminal referrals to the Department of Justice, we go take the White House back, and you never know, it may be an Attorney General Matt Gaetz down the road or someone of my liking who will be there to actually enforce the law and provide the accountability. Not just the vision, but the actual accountability,” he added.
“I like that. I like that. Attorney General Matt Gaetz. You kidding me?” Newsmax host David Harris Jr. said in response.
“The world is not ready, probably. Certainly, Senate confirmation wouldn’t be [easy], but you know, a boy can dream,” he added.
To be clear, he wasn’t saying he wants to be AG or anything like that. He was just offering up a theoretical example to demonstrate that there’s still plenty of reasons to file criminal referrals, even to the current Democrat-dominated DOJ.
It’s a highly relevant point because, in fact, it was only days ago that Sen. Rand Paul filed a criminal referral in a separate case involving Dr. Anthony Fauci.
In a tweet posted on July 29th, he pointed to an unredacted email from Feb. 2020 in which Fauci mentioned being on a phone call with “highly credible scientists.”
These scientists “were concerned about the fact that upon viewing the sequences of several isolates of the nCov there were mutations in the virus that would be most unusual to have evolved naturally in the bats and that there was a suspicion that this mutation was intentionally inserted,” Fauci wrote in the email.
“The suspicion was heightened by the fact that scientists in Wuhan University are known to have been working on gain-of-function experiments to determine the molecular mechanisms associated with bat viruses adapting to human infection, and the outbreak originated in Wuhan,” he added.
According to Paul, this email “directly contradicts” what Fauci had testified to Congress.
“This directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie. That’s why I sent an official criminal referral to the DOJ,” the senator tweeted.

Yet in response to the criminal referral, some Republican voters cried foul, arguing that it was pointless since the DOJ is controlled by President Biden’s henchmen.
“Rand Paul sent a referral for prosecution to our corrupt DOJ. They’re not going to do a thing,” one critic tweeted.
“I’ll believe something happens to Fauci when I see it. Until then I won’t hold my breath,” another critic added.
It’s true that this administration will likely just ignore the criminal complaint, but as Gaetz noted, a future Trump (or DeSantis) administration would have the power to do something with the complaint.
All this said, leftists weren’t too happy to hear about Gaetz imagining himself as a future AG. Indeed, in response to what he said, they screamed, hollered, and gnashed their yellow teeth.
Look:
I really didn’t need that thought in my head. This should energize all Dems to get out and vote.

NICE!!! A PEDOPHILE for an AG! Surely our country would not subject us to world wide humiliation like that!

We don’t need an AG that traffics underage girls across state lines for paid sex, whose resume highlight would be “Social Chairman” for the GOP party scene.

Idk if this I’d actually a goal of his or if he’s just trying to trigger libs, and I doubt his future holds any type of position of power (unless he is elevated to trusty at whatever prison he ends up in), but just hearing that put out into the universe is chilling.
