CNN’s Jake Tapper wasn’t pleased by the Trump team’s reaction to the latest federal indictment that likened the treatment of the former president and his supporters to two of history’s most infamous totalitarian governments.

On Tuesday evening, just in time for the nightly network news broadcasts, it was announced that Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has leveled multiple criminal charges against the 2024 GOP frontrunner over his role in the January 6 chaos at the U.S. Capitol, his most serious legal trouble yet considering the venue in which he will be tried.

“The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes,” read the statement which was released after the news of the additional charges broke, strong language to which Tapper objected.

“They’re saying it’s persecution and that it is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s and the former Soviet Union. Just giving you a kind of a window into the argument they’re going to be making tying this all back to the campaign,” said anchor Kaitlin Collins, referring to the Trump team’s statement.

“Obviously comparing this to Nazi Germany is beyond the pale in terms of offensiveness and ignorance,” whined Tapper. “Can you give us, I’d like to know exactly what the person said. First of all, who is the one issuing this?”

“This is coming from a Trump spokesperson. It’s a lengthy statement,” replied Collins.

“Just read us the Nazi Germany part,” Tapper said as the network’s new prime-time star obliged by reading the portion of the statement that put a burr under his saddle.

Panel member Dana Bash later stated, “The Nazi Germany thing is like break glass when you are in the biggest political trouble, or the biggest legal trouble that you could possibly be.”

“Also interesting considering that Donald Trump had dinner with a couple of Holocaust deniers a few months ago,” Tapper added, likely referring to the scandalous incident when rapper Kanye West dragged along controversial commentator Nick Fuentes to dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago last year.

“This is nothing more than the latest corrupt chapter in the continued pathetic attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their weaponized Department of Justice to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election, in which President Trump is the undisputed frontrunner, and leading by substantial margins,” read the statement which Trump posted on Truth Social.

“But why did they wait two and a half years to bring these fake charges, right in the middle of President Trump’s winning campaign for 2024? Why was it announced the day after the big Crooked Joe Biden scandal broke out from the halls of Congress?” the statement reads, noting the suspect timing of the indictment.

“The answer is, election interference! The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes. President Trump has always followed the law and the Constitution, with advice from many highly accomplished attorneys,” the statement continued. “These un-American witch hunts will fail and President Trump will be re-elected to the White House so he can save our Country from the abuse, incompetence, and corruption that is running through the veins of our Country at levels never seen before.”

It was completely without irony that Tapper found the Nazi Germany reference to be so “beyond the pale” when leftists have spent years invoking the German regime and its fanatical leader to smear their political enemies, especially Trump.
