Biden makes bizarre claim that he ‘ended cancer as we know it’ and Twitter has thoughts

President Joe Biden left a nation collectively shaking its head on Tuesday when he declared that he “ended cancer as we know it,” a remark that is even sadder when you consider that the 80-year-old president probably believes he has indeed ended cancer.

Either way, Wednesday’s press briefing should prove to be a hoot when White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre takes on the task of explaining why he would say such a thing while speaking from the Executive Mansion on expanding access to mental health care.

“You know, in the last two State of the Union Addresses, I’ve laid out what I call the Unity Agenda. It is made up of four big things that we’re going to do together as a nation. One of the things I’m always asked is: You know, why — why Americans have sort of lost faith for a while on being — being able to do big things,” the president said.

“If you could do anything at all, Joe, what would you do? I said I’d cure cancer,” he continued. “And they looked at me like, Why cancer? Because no one thinks we can, that’s why. And we can. We ended cancer as we know it.”

Interestingly, the White House transcripts of Biden’s speech reads: “We can end cancer as we know it.”

For the record, a founding partner of Cavalry LLC and co-host of The Ruthless Podcast noted in a tweet there were 609,360 cancer deaths in the U.S. last year, according to the American Cancer Society.

Omri Ceren, who advises Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on national security, asked: “Who is briefing him and what are they telling him and why haven’t adults intervened?”

Biden, whose son Beau Biden died from brain cancer in 2015, pledged to “cure cancer” while campaigning from his basement in 2020 and “reignited” the “Cancer Moonshot” program he headed up during the Obama administration last year after being installed as president.

The online blowback to Biden’s latest flub came hard and heavy, with social media users stressing how embarrassing this is becoming before the world.
