‘You came up with that on your own?’ Geraldo sends heads to desks with new show idea pitch

While imitation is the best form of flattery, Geraldo Rivera’s latest idea will not get him any points for originality. One thing is certain, though, Rivera clearly missed being in the limelight since stepping away from Fox News.

Taking to Twitter, Rivera pitched an idea Tuesday for a new cable news program. After suggesting that the show air at 4 p.m. and feature four hosts, “including me,” he proposed that it be called: “The Four.”

Seriously.

“How’s this for a show idea? #TheFour (Seriously) I know it’s derivative, but it’s still a good idea that could competitively run on any cable news channel,” Geraldo tweeted. “An eclectic, diverse quartet of outspoken commentators-including me-covering the great events of the day, running in the 4:00pm ET hour. Thoughts?”

Rivera’s troubles at Fox News came to a head after it was announced that he would no longer appear as one of the five hosts of “The Five,” which remains a ratings king. Ongoing rumors of trouble with popular cohost Greg Gutfeld persisted — Rivera had previously called Gutfeld an “insulting punk” and threatened to kick his *ss — and shortly thereafter Rivera announced that he was leaving the network.

As for soliciting folks for their thoughts, ask and ye shall receive. The trouble here is that some social media users actually took Geraldo seriously.

Here’s a quick sampling of some of the responses to the story from Twitter:
