Singer nukes Obama for sharing song list featuring her music with two words – and they weren’t ‘thank you’

While most musicians would consider a public nod from former President Barack Obama a record-selling boost, American Indie singer-songwriter/ producer Lucy Dacus was far from thrilled.

Every year, Obama graces his social media followers with a playlist of summer songs, a tradition he kept up on Thursday.

“Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer — a mix of old and new,” the former POTUS tweeted. “Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed.”

Included on the eclectic list were such songs as Luke Combs’ “Fast Car,” “Walk Like An Egyptian” by The Bangles, The Rolling Stones’ “Soul Survivor,” and “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers.

Nestled in between Ayra Starr’s “Sability” and “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” by the late, great Otis Redding, was a song called “Not Strong Enough,” by Dacus’s band, boygenius.

Upon seeing her band’s name alongside what are arguably some of the greatest artists in music history — Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, and Marvin Gaye, to name a few — Dacus had two words for Obama, and they weren’t “thank you.”

“War criminal,” she replied, adding a sad-faced, old-school emoji.


Why Dacus slammed Obama with such a label is unclear.

It certainly isn’t because she’s a conservative.

[B]oygenius was one of the bands that took the stage in Tennessee to protest, among other things, the state’s banning of drag shows on public property.

The band opted to perform at the Love Rising LGBTQ+ benefit concert all in drag to punctuate their point.

And, according to the ultra-woke Teen Vogue, Dacus and her bandmates led “a ‘F*ck Ron DeSantis’ chant at Coachella.”

“If you are really going to protect kids, why are we not focusing on child abuse in churches?” she asked Teen Vogue. “Why are we not focusing on gun control? Guns are the leading cause of death in children. It’s just blatantly culture war. It’s not about protecting kids at all.”

According to TMZ, Dacus has “shown support for Bernie Sanders in the past” and “called Donald Trump an ‘evil, bigoted man.'”

Back on Twitter, the two-word Obama whomp has been met mostly with perplexion.

“A lot of people more upset about Obama being called a war criminal than they are about Obama committing war crimes,” noted one user.

“Who are you?” asked another.

“So you make music for war criminals,” snarked a third. “Got it.”
