Folks have serious concerns about Zuck’s new Threads logo: ‘They’re not even hiding it anymore’

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s newest endeavor Threads could face serious legal problems with Twitter threatening to sue after accusing the platform of “systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation” of Twitter’s trade secrets.

But the new copycat app, as the new Instagram-based Twitter competitor is being described, has another problem that could be just as impactful.

Turns out, the Threads logo is reminding folks of the Biblical number of the beast: 666.

And while the assertion may be dependent on the eye of the beholder a reported link to pedophilia should be of even greater concern for Threads, which one expert called “a platform that’s looking to tap into a massive Instagram install base and take the frustration and hate toward Musk and Twitter, bottle it and look to gain market share.”

Twitter influencer Ian Miles Cheong pointed to a Wall Street Journal article while tweeting: “They should change their logo since Threads, Instagram’s Twitter knockoff, bears a disturbing resemblance to logos the FBI has identified and used by pedophiles.”

More From WSJ:

Instagram, the popular social-media site owned by Meta Platforms, helps connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to the commission and purchase of underage-sex content, according to investigations by The Wall Street Journal and researchers at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Pedophiles have long used the internet, but unlike the forums and file-transfer services that cater to people who have interest in illicit content, Instagram doesn’t merely host these activities. Its algorithms promote them. Instagram connects pedophiles and guides them to content sellers via recommendation systems that excel at linking those who share niche interests, the Journal and the academic researchers found.
