Homelessness in Hollywood a horror show all its own

The homeless population in California long ago reached crisis levels and despite billions of dollars being spent on the problem at state and local levels, the crisis only seems to get worse. The Los Angeles Times just reported that homelessness jumped 9% in L.A. County, and 10% in the city itself.

There was a time when tourist areas like Hollywood were exempt from the destitution being on public display — it appears that those days are no more:

And it’s not just the sidewalks in Tinseltown being commandeered. Makeshift camps of rundown RVs are just minutes away from Universal Studios theme park, which draws tens of thousands of visitors daily, according to the New York Post.

“A two-mile road in Los Angeles — next to Hollywood studios where shows like ‘Friends,’ ‘Will & Grace’ and ‘Gilmore Girls’ were filmed — has been overrun by homeless people living in ‘unsafe, unsanitary’ RVs and trailers,” the newspaper reported last week, noting that the camp was” strewn with feces and bottles full of urine.”
