Tennis great Martina Navratilova sums up Riley Gaines’ Senate exchange in four words

Legendary women’s tennis great Martina Navratilova weighed in with a short but sweet take on Riley Gaines’ exchange with an activist Democrat witness during a Senate hearing on LGBTQ+ rights earlier this week.

Gaines, a former NCAA swimming star who has bravely taken a stand for the preservation of women’s sports which have been invaded by transgender biological males who have a physical advantage over real females, mixed it up with the witness, Kelley Robinson who is the president of the Human Rights Campaign, the powerful LGBTQ+ lobby that has imposed its will on corporate America.

During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on “Protecting Pride: Defending the Civil Rights of LGBTQ+ Americans,” Robinson was asked whether she believed that biological males have an unfair advantage to which she replied that she couldn’t “definitely” say and tried to back her stance up with a “news article” that some men believe they can defeat Serena Williams on the tennis court.

“Both Serena and Venus lost to the 203rd ranked male tennis player,” Gaines pointed out.

In the 1998 Australian Open, the Williams sisters were beaten back-to-back by 50-year-old Karsten Braasch after they boasted that they could beat any male outside of the top 200 in the world.

“This is just sad,” tweeted the nine-time Wimbledon champion, one of the most iconic women’s tennis players in history in response to Robinson’s remarks to Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana.

While Navratilova did not appear at the Senate hearing, Gaines quoted her during her opening statement, and thanked her for “being such a force” in the efforts to save girls’ and women’s sports.

“I quoted you in my opening statement at the hearing.’There will always be significant numbers of boys and men who would beat the best girls and women in head-to-head competition. Claims to the contrary are simply a denial of science,’ Gaines wrote in her reply to Navratilova. “Thanks for being such a force!!!”

“Right back at you, Riley!!!” Navratilova responded.

The 66-year-old Navratilova, a longtime activist for the gay community has opposed transgenders in women’s sports.

“Once somebody has gone through male puberty, there is no way to erase that physical advantage. You cannot simply turn back the clock, for instance by trying to lower testosterone levels,” she said.
