Crenshaw literally offers his own eye to refs at Congressional Soccer Match: ‘They have two eyeballs but they don’t use them’

Some things just weren’t meant to be props.

U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, popped out his glass eye to jokingly offer it to the referees in the 9th Annual Congressional Soccer Match on Tuesday. A former U.S. Navy SEAL, Crenshaw lost his right eye in 2012 when he was injured by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan,

“The refs, they have two eyeballs, but they don’t use them,” Crenshaw said after the game. “So, I’m just going to give them one of mine.”

He is then seen on video popping out his glass eyeball as his teammates recoiled in mock horror.

“This is for the refs,” Crenshaw said as he dropped the eye into the trophy cup. “There we go. That’s for the referees. They didn’t call a PK right there.”

On a positive note, Republicans in DC finally beat the Democrats at something. The GOP team was up 2-1 at halftime at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., before closing out the match with a big 4-2 victory over the Democratic team.
