Biden reportedly orders DNC to zip it on Trump indictment

The White House has been tightlipped about the Department of Justice targeting President Biden’s chief rival in the 2024 presidential election, and the president has reportedly ordered the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to follow suit.

Former President Donald Trump was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on 37 criminal counts over classified documents found during the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, and his successor had nothing to say about it while hosting a Juneteenth concert on the South Lawn of the White House later in the evening with first lady Jill Biden — the president spoke briefly, reminding all how racist America remains.

Amid concerns that the DOJ’s actions reek of third-world tendencies, it’s understandable that Team Biden seeks distance.

More from Politico:

President Joe Biden and his top aides have taken a vow of silence on the federal indictment of his predecessor, Donald Trump — and have explicitly ordered the national Democratic Party and his reelection campaign to do the same.

That directive was issued in recent days after Trump was hit with federal charges for his handling of classified documents after he left the White House, according to three people familiar with the instructions. But that decision has some Democrats and allies worried that Biden could miss a chance to underscore the seriousness of the national moment as well as deliver a political blow to his top White House rival.

Somewhat fittingly, some might say, a Fox News chyron read Tuesday night: “Wannabe dictator speaks at the White House after having his political rival arrested.”

Biden has insisted that he has never spoken to Attorney General Merrick Garland about the charges against Trump, saying he would not interfere with the independence of the DOJ or tell them what to do.

“I have never once — not one single time — suggested to the Justice Department what they should do or not do, relative to bringing a charge or not bringing a charge,” he told reporters last week. “I’m honest.”

…as the day is long.

On that note, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, a 2024 Republican presidential primary candidate, was in Miami ahead of Trump’s arraignment Tuesday and announced that he filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request demanding the release of all communications surrounding Trump’s indictment, beginning with President Joe Biden. He also announced that he will sue in federal court if his request is not processed within the required 20 days, using his own campaign funds for the action.
