Kelly Clarkson, the original “American Idol” winner, came up with a unique effort to promote her new album, serenading surprised Los Angelenos as they dined in Culver City.
With a group of backup singers, Clarkson served up a harmonious, a capella offering of a few of her new tunes.
“Clarkson stopped by a coffee shop, a salad joint, and a bakery at the Platform shopping center in Culver City to belt out some songs from her upcoming album Chemistry,” Entertainment Weekly reported. “Though she didn’t need any musical accompaniment, Clarkson did have some backup singers on hand as she gave folks a taste of new tracks like Favorite Kind of High and Me.”
“When you decide to #flashmob people at a random Blue Bottle in LA…,” Clarkson tweeted while sharing a clip of the performance.

“This was so fun, y’all! I got together with a bunch of amazing singers and flashmobbed people in LA,” she said in another tweet.

The new album, “Chemistry,” is seen as a post-divorce album covering Clarkson’s seven-year marriage to Brandon Blackstock, and she recently told EW that while she’s “definitely very honest” in the music, some emotionally-charged tracks were “too truth-telling” to make the cut.
“I know people will hear this record and be like, ‘Oh, damn, she went there!’ and I’m like, ‘No, I promise you I didn’t,'” she said.

Arjun Rai, a tech guru who said he was in the middle of a work meeting, was certainly appreciative of the American Idol alum’s efforts — talk about wowing a potential investor.

And if you think the above makes for a feel-good moment, you haven’t seen anything yet.
In a video shared last week, a Clarkson rep rewarded a random fan $1,000 and a trip to Las Vegas after she correctly answered his question, which was who was the first winner of “American Idol.” The lucky winner was so overwhelmed by the generosity that she broke down sobbing, but that was just the warm-up because Kelly Clarkson soon appeared and offered a warm embrace.
