Fox News host Jesse Watters is evidently no fan of colleague Neil Cavuto, suggesting in a text exchange with now-ousted Tucker Carlson that Cavuto should be fired.
The texts appear to be part of redacted court filings from Dominion Voting Systems’ now-settled defamation case against Fox News, with the Daily Beast’s Confider newsletter picking through the bones to find scandalous content.
In a December 2020 exchange, Carlson expressed dismay over former President Donald Trump’s post-election actions and suggested that he’d like to leave Fox News before reluctantly acknowledging he would “die here.”
“It’s so sad,” Carlson reportedly texted. “He’s going to break some shit. He already is. Wish I knew where to run. But I’ll die here.”
Later in the exchange, Watters shared his take on Cavuto and to his credit, he also shared that he had no use for Chris Wallace, who left Fox News in 2021 for rival CNN.
“Wallace Cavuto and other [sic] have got to go. Need some fresh blood. Should hire some trump people,” Watters reportedly said in a text.
Cavuto, who has been highly critical of Trump, is on at 4 p.m. and he has one of the worst-performing shows in Fox’s daytime lineup. Despite being the lead-in to the most popular show on Fox News, “The Five,” he struggles to best MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, whose “Deadline: White House” show airs in the same time slot.
In the texts with Watters, Carlson also reportedly complained about Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich.
“This girl apparently works for us in the ‘news’ division, though I’d be stunned if she’s ever broken a story,” he texted. “She was on Twitter last night calling out Hannity, and accusing Trump of planning to ‘steal’ the election. Can’t continue.”
In an exchange with colleagues Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, Carlson called for Heinrich to be fired.
“Please get her fired,” he said. “Seriously… What the f-ck? I’m actually shocked. It needs to stop immediately, like tonight. It’s measurably hurting the company The stock price is down. Not a joke.”
