Former President Donald J. Trump will appear on CNN for a town hall event from New Hampshire, the network announced on Monday, news that comes as a big surprise after years of hostile treatment that he has received from the self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” and its deep bench of pundits who loathe him.
On a day when the 2024 GOP frontrunner traveled across the pond for the opening of a new golf course in Scotland, CNN said that Trump will appear at the event which is scheduled to air next Wednesday, May 10 at 9 p.m. ET where he will take questions from Granite State Republicans and undeclared voters in the town hall which will be moderated by “CNN This Morning” anchor Kaitlan Collins.
It will be Trump’s first appearance on the cable news network – which he has savagely and deservedly criticized for years – since his 2016 White House campaign.

According to the network’s website, “The CNN town hall comes as Trump has quickly emerged as the frontrunner in the Republican field for president in 2024. A handful of Republicans have entered the 2024 race so far, though Trump’s biggest potential rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is still weighing a possible campaign. Trump’s campaign and political allies have continued to ramp up their attacks on DeSantis as the former president has racked up congressional endorsements, including from Florida Republicans who routinely work with DeSantis.”
“But the former president is running to retake the White House at the same time that he’s been indicted in New York and faces additional legal peril in Washington and Georgia,” CNN states, adding that “Trump has refused to acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden, continuing to falsely claim that the election was stolen from him, even as Trump’s rivals – and some of his allies – have urged the Republican Party to move on from 2020.”

Some may be tempted to suggest that the agreement to be grilled on live national television on a network that churns out negative news about him 24/7 is a real head-scratcher, especially in light of Trump implying that he could skip the Republican debates due to the “hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors” is a major contradiction, but the potential for a massive audience to get out his message may have been too tough to resist even if he is venturing into a lion’s den.
Twitter reacted to the stunning news.
Speaking from personal experience, their town halls might not be the most objectively-ran operations https://t.co/EtPFovXDso

After all that CNN did to him over the last six years, he prostitutes himself to CNN.

CNN wants ratings, Trump, love him or hate him, delivers ratings.
Trump being willing to go to the “enemy camp” for a town hall says a lot about him.

So after 6 years of non-stop “he’s the biggest threat democracy has ever faced” you’re doing this?
What an absolute disgusting rat-infested clownshow @cnn is.

This should be good. @CNN aren’t biased, lying, Trump hating pieces of shit at all.

Wasn’t he just complaning about the RNC debates being hack-o-ramas? Not a serious candidate.

“I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused? Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!” Trump wrote in a post last week on Truth Social, suggesting that the GOP debates would be stacked against him.
“The town hall will stream live for pay TV subscribers via CNN.com and CNN OTT and mobile apps under ‘TV Channels,’ or CNNgo where available. The town hall will also be available On Demand beginning Thursday, May 11 to pay TV subscribers via CNN.com, CNN apps, and Cable Operator Platforms,” according to CNN.
