Pushaw slaps sob story of Miami Herald layoffs with hardcore reality: ‘Try doing journalism’

Christina Pushaw, rapid response director for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is having a difficult time feeling any pity for Miami Herald employees who were recently laid off by the local news outlet.

A user named One Herald Guild took to Twitter to voice their disapproval of the situation, claiming that the layoffs will mean that many big stories, specifically those related to the growing Miami tech scene, will go uncovered.

They want to eliminate people who handle page design, copy editing, research, tech coverage and creation of online interactive projects.

On top of that, we are now left without a reporter dedicated to Miami’s booming tech scene. Big stories in Miami will be missed. Combined with the still-vacant tourism position, we’re left with a bare-bones business team to cover a massive beat.

We hope the company is willing to work with us and provide necessary information to explore alternatives to the layoffs that take effect later this week. So far, they’ve been slow and unresponsive.

The company wants to put 6 journalists out of work and call that an improvement.

Despite the sky-is-falling tone adopted by the tweets, Pushaw just couldn’t muster any tears.

“Try doing journalism. Nobody wants to pay you for your left wing political activism, we hear that all day for free,” she responded.

It would appear she isn’t the only one who has been underwhelmed by the Miami Herald’s reporting:
