Speaking in Philadelphia about his budget plan, the president was talking about one of the Democrats’ key elements in buying votes, student loan debt forgiveness — which is before the Supreme Court now, being legally challenged by those who say the president does not have the authority to cancel debt — when he began likening this effort to the Covid-era PPP program, noting that it had forgiven “a lot more.”
It was at this point that Biden mentioned the “big fight” he had in the 2020 election with his predecessor, before referring to Donald Trump as “the former president, and maybe future president.”
“You may remember that I had a big fight with the former president, and maybe future president. Bless me, Father,” he said — suddenly, Biden is Catholic again.

The small audience of union members and party faithful began to audibly groan at the prospect of Trump being president once again, but the greater question is why would Biden publicly describe the man he’ll likely face if he follows through on his talk about running for reelection in such a manner?
A senior moment? A Freudian slip? Or has the president seen polling and he’s legitimately concerned about his prospects of defeating Trump?
