Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pushing President Joe Biden to hire former Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York as Labor Secretary, according to Politico.
Pelosi has been making phone calls to the Biden administration advocating for Maloney to take the recently vacated position, replacing Martin Walsh, Politico reported. While no longer speaker, she still holds tremendous power in the Democratic Party and has been yielding that power to advocate for other members of the party like Maloney, according to Politico.
Maloney lost his reelection bid in the 2022 midterms, and also failed to keep the Democratic majority in the House as Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair.
President Biden announced Walsh’s resignation on Feb. 17, as he heads to lead the National Hockey League’s Players’ Association, Politico reported.
Pelosi’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
