Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, a top European Commission official predicted so-called “hate speech” will soon be banned in the United States.

“Illegal hate speech, which you will have soon also in the U.S. I think that we have a strong reason why we have this in the criminal law,” Věra Jourová said, referencing Europe’s own “hate speech” laws.

Jourová is the vice president for values and transparency for the European Commission, which is the political arm of the wider European Union.

Does her prediction carry weight? Sadly, yes. In fact, “hate speech” laws are already beginning to be enforced in certain parts of the country. In New York, for example, last month the Social Media Hate Speech Accountability Act went into effect.

“The new law requires social media networks to make it possible for individuals to report hate speech on the platforms in a publicly accessible way and says the companies must directly respond to anyone who reports such speech. Companies could face fines of up to $1,000 a day if they don’t comply,” according to Politico.

While New York is thus far the only state to successfully implement the law, other blue states are reportedly trying to follow suit.

During her appearance at the WEF, Jourová also took a shot at pro-free-speech Twitter owner Elon Musk.

“Jourová said the platform would face sanctions if it didn’t comply with new EU online regulations. Asked if the bloc had enough clout to make big platforms like Twitter comply with the new laws which aimed to create safer digital spaces, she said that there was ‘nothing stronger than legislation in force,'” according to Euronews.

“We will have the Digital Services Act [DSA]. We will have the Code of Practice as a part of this legislation. So, after Mr Musk took over Twitter with his ‘freedom of speech absolutism,’ we are the protectors of freedom of speech as well,” Jourová said.

“But at the same time, we cannot accept, for instance, illegal content online and so on. So, our message was clear: we have rules which have to be complied with, otherwise there will be sanctions,” she continued.

According to Euractiv, Jourová added that Europeans’ censorious “hate speech” laws “apply to Twitter regardless of who owns it.”

“Musk should not underestimate our efforts to make big platforms responsible,” she said.

That said, it doesn’t seem like Musk gives a damn about what she and other European officials have to say:

Notice how one Twitter user called Jourová the “Karen cat lady of the EU.” Sounds about right.

As previously reported, the problem with “hate speech” laws is that so-called “hate speech” is oftentimes nothing more than thoughts and ideas that belie what the global establishment wants people to believe.

For example, it’s considered “hate speech” to call a so-called “transgender woman” a man, despite a “transgender woman” in fact being a biological man.

It’s likewise considered “hate speech” to talk about black criminality, despite what the data clearly shows about most violent crimes.

The primary problem with this notion of “hate speech” is that it places more concern on people’s feelings than on the facts. Meaning, in other words, that those who support such laws care more about not offending others than they do about speaking the truth.
