Former Republican Rep. David Jolly of Florida claimed that President Joe Biden was an “example” of properly handling the discovery of classified documents from his time as Vice President during a Monday MSNBC appearance.
“Joe Biden, based on what we know now, and that’s an important caveat, is an example of how a president or elected officials should handle a matter in which they discover they’re in possession of documents, in contrast to Donald Trump, who, by all — by all appearances, looks like he engaged with criminal intent and the — and the hiding of documents,” Jolly told host Chris Jansing.
Five additional pages of classified documents were discovered in Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home, the White House announced Saturday, two days after revealing that classified materials were discovered in the garage next to the home. It was the fourth discovery of classified material in Biden’s possession revealed since Jan. 9, when the White House revealed that lawyers cleaning out an office at the Penn Biden Center in November discovered classified materials.

“I think the failure by Joe Biden was this, Chris, it was simply communications one-on-one. You can’t have three different discoveries, because that shows you’re not actually taking it seriously,” Jolly added. “When they made the first discovery, the first week in November, the president should have ordered a wholesale review of every document, every box, and then issued one statement and said we got them all.”
FBI agents raided Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate owned by former President Donald Trump, Aug. 8, as part of an investigation into allegations surrounding classified materials allegedly taken when Trump left office in January 2021. Trump claimed he declassified the documents in question.
“From a PR standpoint, yeah, this is very bad,” Jolly said. “I will tell you Republicans will continue to hit Biden, but they also are going to hit the Department of Justice, because recall, one of their central thesis is that the government is favoring Democrats, and so they’re going to go after the — after DOJ just as hard as they are on Joe Biden, and going after DOJ might actually have more legs with this story for Republicans than going after Biden himself.”
