Arizona Democrat Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs spiked the ball after a Maricopa County judge rejected a lawsuit challenging her controversial win in November’s gubernatorial elections, gloating that the decision was “another win for democracy.”
On Saturday, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson slammed the door on any slim hopes that Republican Kari Lake may have had in overturning the results based on Election Day voting machine malfunctions and issues with ballot chain of custody, ruling that the court “cannot accept speculation or conjecture in place of clear and convincing evidence.”
“The Court DOES NOT find clear and convincing evidence” of misconduct and that there was no “clear and convincing evidence that such misconduct did in fact affect the result of the 2022 General Election.”
“Another win for democracy. The court upholds Arizona’s election process and respects the choice of Arizona’s voters,” Hobbs wrote on Twitter along with a copy of the ruling.

Thompson, who previously dismissed eight other counts in Lake’s lawsuit which was filed on December 9, allowing a trial on the remaining two, preserved the win for Hobbs who as Arizona’s sitting Secretary of State had oversight over the elections but declined to recuse herself, leading some to criticize what they described as a conflict of interest.
Lake called Hobbs’ refusal to recuse herself as the state’s top election official a “major ethical problem” during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News last month.
In her own announcement after the ruling, Lake vowed to appeal.
“My Election Case provided the world with evidence that proves our elections are run outside of the law. This Judge did not rule in our favor. However, for the sake of restoring faith and honesty in our elections, I will appeal his ruling,” she wrote on Saturday.

Twitter users responded to Hobbs’ Christmas Eve victory dance.
The democracy of playing with voting machines and fiddling with ballot custody. So far, they can’t prove you did this with malice. A very high standard. But I wouldn’t brag about creating a process that 60% of voters don’t trust. Maybe an “I’m sorry,” would help a little.

The only win here is for confusion and controversy. Democracy loses

You still cheated, and you and all of us know you did.

You should have recused yourself. You will never even appear legitimate!!

I appreciate the efforts you guys have put into the last couple of elections. You’ve opened people’s eyes to the new way of holding elections.
Let’s see if Republicans can get as good at ballot harvesting & early voting now that we have election season, not an election day

Libs got away with another cheat because the judges are in on it.

Ya know what? I decided long ago I was not going to allow myself to be “governed” by anyone. Perhaps a lot of people in AZ will come to that same conclusion, after today. I mean, what’s the point of being “governor” if no one is willing to be obedient?

Hobbs is set to be sworn in as Arizona’s governor on January 2, 2023, another huge win for Democrats and their media allies but a big loss for the perception of free and fair elections, with a growing number of others who are becoming increasingly disillusioned with a badly broken system.
