Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has a net worth somewhere around $2.5 billion, so it’s safe to say that a hundred bucks is nothing to her.
For the average working stiff, that’s a whole other story and you’d expect Oprah to be sensitive to that reality — you’d be wrong.
A TikTok video is making the rounds after a purported fan — the man has been identified as TMZ’s Washington bureau chief — approached Oprah to ask for advice on getting a Christmas present for his mother, who he said is not doing well and wanted to cheer her up.
“You know, a wonderful thing is that jewelry box that I had on ‘Favorite Things,’” Winfrey began.
The man interjected to say that was “too expensive” for him, prompting Oprah to counter, “No it’s not. It’s really not, it’s like a hundred and some dollars.”
“A little lower in my price budget,” the man interjected.
“Lower than a hundred dollars,” Oprah replied, somewhat incredulously.
Seemingly catching on finally, she shifted into PR mode to then advise the man, who mentioned that his mother was sentimental, “Ok, you do a list of your top ten reasons why you love her, and you make a beautiful card, and it’s your top ten.”

The reactions on TikTok were mixed.
“She said oh you poor? I got a better gift for you,” one social media user said.
“Oprah is a billionaire but she gave a gift suggestion that’s $100 .. but y’all saying she’s out of touch,” another wrote.
“Bless her heart, she was trying to help. I love both her suggestions. There was no judgement in her tone or reaction. Love her sentimental gift idea,” yet another spiel media user said.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
Well yeah of course she laughs at 100 bucks, she’s rich. Here in the real world, everyday folk like myself can’t afford to spend that on a gift. These days its hard enough just to get a weeks worth of groceries for under 100 bucks! It must be nice to laugh at 100 dollars

How to say you’re an elitist without saying you’re an elitist.

$100 for a gift is a lot for me. Has to be budgeted and sometimes takes time to save for it. Honestly, even a lot of the ads that DW has on its shows I think, “who’s actually buying this stuff?”

Has it been so long that she has forgotten where she came from?

To be fair she earns more than $100 in the time it takes her to take a dump!
