Kari Lake staffer under medical supervision after opening envelope with white powdery substance

A campaign staffer for Republican Arizona gubernatorial hopeful Kari Lake is under medical supervision after opening an envelope containing a “suspicious white powder” that was received at the candidate’s campaign headquarters on Saturday, an act of political terror that isn’t likely to get much play in the media let alone be condemned by Democrats.

On the weekend before what is arguably the most important election in the state’s history, Lake’s campaign command center was shut down at the most critical juncture of the campaign, being swarmed by law enforcement including Phoenix police, the FBI as well as hazmat and bomb squad teams.

A Phoenix Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that officers, “responded to a found property call at an office building near 40th Street and Camelback Road.”

“When officers arrived, they learned there were suspicious items located inside the mail,” Sergeant Phil Krynsky of the Phoenix police said in an email.  “Additional resources responded to collect the items and secure the area. There have been no reports of injury and the investigation remains active.”

A spokesperson for Lake’s campaign told Fox 10 Phoenix that the envelopes were sent to the office and that the staffer had discovered the substance inside after opening it. “It was one of two envelopes that were confiscated by law enforcement and sent to professionals at Quantico for examination, and we are awaiting details,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “The staff member is currently under medical supervision.”

Lake, who is running against sitting Democrat Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to succeed outgoing Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, is not believed to have been exposed to the substance, according to NBC News correspondent Vaughn Hillyard.

In a statement reported by CNN’s Kyung Lah, Lake said, “Just two days before Election Day, our campaign headquarters remains shut down. We look forward to law enforcement completing their investigation as quickly as possible. Rest assured, we are taking this security threat incredibly seriously…”

“…and we are thankful for the Phoenix PD, FBI, first responders, bomb squad, and HazMat crews that responded to this incident. In the meantime, know that our resolve has never been higher and we cannot be intimidated,” the statement continued. “We continue to push full speed ahead to win this election on Tuesday.”

“Political violence, threats, or intimidation have no place in our democracy. I strongly condemn this threatening behavior directed at Lake and her staff,” Lake’s opponent, Katie Hobbs said in a statement.

Twitter users reacted to the act of apparent political violence.

Undeterred, the uncompromising Lake is continuing to work on closing the deal with Arizonans who are on the front lines of Biden’s war on America, nailing down the endorsement of legendary television and movie star Chuck Norris.

The confident Trump-endorsed Lake also announced a “Countdown to Karizona” concert and rally on Monday, clearly expecting to be the border state’s next governor.

While details on who exactly sent the white powder to Lake’s campaign HQ have yet to be revealed, the media’s disinterest in the terroristic act speaks volumes.
