Lifelong NYC Dem clergy leader rips Ocasio-Cortez, calls for Hispanics to support her GOP opponent

Recent video footage of confrontations between Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and protesters at her town hall meetings show that her act is beginning to wear thin on many, including Democrats, one of whom spoke out against the socialist firebrand to Fox News.

Lifelong Democrat Rev. Ruben Diaz, Sr. joined host Todd Piro on Thursday’s edition of “Fox & Friends First” to discuss the discontent with some voters in New York’s 14th Congressional District as well as to express his support for her GOP opponent whom he urged Hispanic voters to support in next Tuesday’s election.

Diaz, a former New York City Council member and state senator, said that AOC’s antics cost the Democrat congresswoman his support years ago after her grandstanding against online shipping giant Amazon caused the company to back out of plans to open a second headquarters in the Big Apple, costing the city thousands of high-paying jobs, many of which could have been held by her constituents.

“She lost me a long time ago when she opposed the 25,000 jobs that Amazon wanted to bring to New York,” he said.

“She lost me there, but then she continued doing the socialist things against the police officers, in favor of releasing criminals into the street,” he added, also expressing his dissatisfaction with Ocasio-Cortez over her support for open borders and encouraging illegal immigrants to come into the country.

Asked by Piro about what his fellow hard-working, middle-class Democrats have to say about their celebrity representative, Diaz responded, “I think that AOC has been a person that, she’s been lucky, but right now the Hispanic community, I’m Hispanic like her, and we are turning, we are turning. We are fed up and asking everyone to vote for Tina Forte,” her Republican opponent.

“Tina Forte she’s a person, even though I’m Hispanic, I am asking the Hispanic community and my parishioners and my fellow ministers to support Tina Forte,” he said.

Forte is running on a message of “stopping radical socialists from destroying the American dream” which has never been more important – especially when it comes to Ocasio-Cortez – than it is today with it no longer being possible to deny the lie of benevolence that cloaks a political ideology that has destroyed living standards and led to repression wherever it has taken root.

According to her website:

“Radical socialist politicians routinely degrade America and the dream it represents. They’ve vilified and defunded our law enforcement, creating a crime surge, while cowering behind their own private security. They’ve destroyed businesses, driven away jobs, and offered little compensation to those affected, while enjoying their own large government salaries. They have robbed children of more than a year of education, denied school choice to those of us who want to give our kids the best education – all while sending their own children to private schools.”

Diaz, who is the president of New York’s Hispanic Clergy Organization, said that he is “definitely” backing Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin who is challenging unelected authoritarian Kathy Hochul for the governorship, saying, “I believe that Lee Zeldin will be our next governor, and Tina Forte will be our next congresswoman.”

Diaz also said that Joe Biden needs to go and that he’s crossing his fingers and praying for the return of former President Donald J. trump.

“You want Donald Trump back?” Piro exclaimed. “Interesting, as a Democrat, you want Donald Trump back. Focusing more on the Squad, they’ve been relatively silent this entire election cycle, do you look at that as a hopeful sign that maybe the Democratic Party of which you’re still a part is saying look, we have to abandon the Squad, we have to abandon the far left policies and we need to go more moderate again, do you think that transformation is happening?”

“They better do that, otherwise they are going to lose a lot of people, especially in the Hispanic community, the Hispanic community it is a conservative community. I mean people think that we’re liberal,” Diaz replied. “We are very conservative and the Democratic Party has been failing us and the Democratic Party has been using us, the Democratic Party has been abusing us and we are saying enough. Either you pay attention to us, either you take care of us or we’re gonna move to the Republican Party.”
