With the midterm elections just five days away, both Republicans and Democrats are preparing for potential chaos after the results are tabulated.
President Joe Biden, for his part, made a speech at Union Station in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to a small group of 150 young Democrats. Did he review the Democratic Party platform? No. Did he talk about top issues Americans say they care about, such as crime, inflation, gas prices, and education? Nope. He kept his focus on one thing: scaring people. His message was fairly simple: Republicans are bad people who threaten our Democracy by questioning election results.
“American democracy is under attack because the defeated former president of the United States refused to accept the results of the 2020 election,” said the president. “And he’s made the big lie, an article of faith in the MAGA Republican Party.”
Republicans are outraged by the president’s speech. A tweet from Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) says it well:
Americans deserve a president focused on stopping inflation, crime, and illegal immigration, rather than demonizing his political opponents and desperately trying to distract from his disastrous record. President Biden is completely out of touch with the American people. https://t.co/i1aFgok75s

Fox News host Tucker Carlson sees the hallmarks of tyranny in the speech and worries that our election results could be as suspicious as Brazil’s.

The president’s remarks sounded a stark warning, almost like a wartime speech. Republicans are a threat. The biggest issue of our time is election denialism, he seemed to be saying.
“The great irony about the 2020 election is that it’s the most attacked election in our history. And, yet, there’s no election in our history that we can be more certain of its results. Every legal challenge that could have been brought was brought. Every recount that could have been undertaken was undertaken. Every recount confirmed the results.”
As Shrek asked Donkey after observing the little tyrant, Lord Farquaad, “Do you think maybe he’s compensating for something?”
“This institution, this intimidation, this violence against Democrats, Republicans, and nonpartisan officials just doing their jobs, are the consequence of lies told for power and profit, lies of conspiracy and malice, lies repeated over and over to generate a cycle of anger, hate, vitriol, and even violence,” said Biden.
“We the people must decide whether the rule of law will prevail or whether we will allow the dark forces and thirst for power put ahead of the principles that have long guided us,” he added.
“Democracy means the rule of the people, not the rule of monarchs or the moneyed, but the rule of the people. Autocracy is the opposite of democracy. It means the rule of one, one person, one interest, one ideology, one party,” he contended.
This was an ironic statement in the view of Republicans, who level the exact same charge against Democrats.
To Biden, “democracy” means one thing: Democrats having complete power.

Many Republicans found the president’s speech to be outrageous.
Americans are fed up with Joe Biden.
Instead of listening to their concerns, he responded by holding a national address to patronize them.
He is a tyrant.

Think about it:
Democrats control the House, Senate, and White House.
Biden says if you vote against them you’re an enemy of democracy.

President Biden is trying to divide and deflect at a time when America needs to unite—because he can’t talk about his policies that have driven up the cost of living.
The American people aren’t buying it.

President Biden continued with his accusation:
“Instead of waiting until an election is over, they’re starting well before it. They’re starting now. They’ve emboldened violence and intimidation of voters and election officials. It’s estimated that there are more than 300 election deniers on the ballot all across America this year. We can’t ignore the impact this is having on our country. It’s damaging, it’s corrosive, and it’s destructive,” he said.
Carlson made a simple point of his own. If you want people to not question elections, you make those elections transparent, and with changes to election laws in the aftermath of Covid, we have done the opposite. As a point of comparison, the election in Brazil featured a very suspicious outcome, after millions of votes were apparently thrown out, as Carlson pointed out.
“The left’s destruction is so profound, it’s hard to describe,” he said.
Talk show host Buck Sexton responded to Biden’s speech:
“Biden’s final pitch to the American people before the election is that a nudist communist illegal alien who attacked Paul Pelosi is basically the same thing as the Jan 6th ‘insurrection’ and it’s all Trump’s fault. Biden is a moron and his party deserves its imminent humiliation.”
“This speech is a total disgrace,” added Sexton. “Don’t vote on policies, the senile president says, vote knowing that ‘our democracy is in peril.’ Democrats failed utterly in every way so now they try absurd, cheap emotional manipulation. Pathetic.”
Katie Pavlich also weighed in: “Biden claims Republicans are denying people the right to vote while Georgia sees record voter turnout after passing voter integrity laws. It’s just a lie.”
“Going to be amazing when the White House gets asked if they still believe in protecting democracy after voters send Republican majorities to Washington D.C.,” she added.
Maybe the most salient and pithy comment came from Republican communicator Matt Whitlock: “I’m sorry but putting the old man out like this is political malpractice.”
