New Hampshire’s Republican Governor Chris Sununu, subjected himself to the canned talking points emanating from the face of Democrat media operative Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Monday night.
Sununu almost came out of his chair a few times, but he certainly got the better of the polemical veteran broadcaster.
New Hampshire is unexpectedly in the national spotlight for its Senate race between incumbent Democrat Sen. Maggie Hassan and upstart GOP rival Don Bolduc, which is much closer than expected. Hassan had a 10-point advantage in July over the retired Army brigadier general, but the race is now within the margin of error, according to the last two major polls.
Sununu had opposed Bolduc in the primary, but he now hopes Bolduc can unseat the incumbent.
Todd, who seems to think election denialism is the number one issue for voters, must have thought he had the governor dead to rights. After all, Bolduc has the temerity to think the election of Joe Biden was not on the up and up.
During the exchange, Todd employed the words “election denialist,” a condemnatory moniker that the Left uniformly makes use of in much the same way Joseph McCarthy and his acolytes wielded the word “communist” in the ’50s.
“Why are you supporting an election denialist and do you think the inflation issue is enough to sort of rationalize support for somebody who thinks school buses of voters are going to show up in New Hampshire?” Todd asked.
“Let me tell you – you’re in a bubble, man,” Sununu responded. “I love you, Chuck, but you’re in a bubble if you think anybody’s talking about what happened in 2020 or talking about Mar-a-Lago and all that. I know the press loves talking about it. People are talking about what is happening in their pocketbooks every single day when they have to buy groceries or fill up gas.”
“I get that governor, I get that,” said Todd, who actually seems like he certainly does not get it.
“Should they be? You think [inflation] should be prioritized over election denialism?” pressed the anchor, as though there was any merit to the question whatsoever. The look on the governor’s face was priceless.
“Should they be? Of course!” Sununu exclaimed. “This is hitting people! They are having trouble paying their mortgage, they are having trouble making car payments because of bad policies out of Washington.”
Sununu was still amazed at the question.
“Should they be?” he repeated. “Look, the beauty of the American system is every voter has the right and almost the responsibility to be selfish with their vote, to vote in terms of what is best for their family, to have better choice for schools, better economic opportunity. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen in a week, which is why Hassan’s going to get fired, a whole bunch of these Democrats are going to get fired.”
The moderate governor of a blue state refreshingly gave voice to millions of Americans who are “baffled” at the issues they talk about on TV, which aren’t the real issues at all.
He said he was “baffled” by “the fact that Democrats keep pushing this stuff and talking about things that aren’t really what voters want to hear about or aren’t really connecting with the empathetic challenges that the average voter is seeing every day.”
One wonders if ol’ Chuck reviewed Sununu’s Oct 20 interview on CNN with Jake Tapper, who questioned him along the same lines.
“You recently have embraced [Bolduc] even though during the primaries, you called him a quote ‘conspiracy theory extremist who’s not a serious candidate,'” Tapper began. “But now you’re telling Republicans in your state to vote for him – this guy is not all there!”
“Look, I’m supporting the Republican ticket up and down because you know who’s not there? Any of my Democratic congressional delegation,” Sununu responded. “They’re literally not here! They literally spent years – Hassan literally spent years out of state.”
“You know I’m not talking about his physical presence,” countered Tapper. “He was a staunch election liar.”
The patented dismissal. It has been decreed. Anyone who questions the 2020 outcome is a de-facto liar. Misinformation. Disinformation. The Big Lie. There’s only one side of the story that deserves airtime.
Again, remember this is a moderate Republican who has gone along with the narrative.
“Before he won the primary, he was an election liar, then he drastically swapped his position once he won the nomination and realized, ‘Oh my God, there’s a bunch of sane people in New Hampshire I have to appeal to.'”
