Jake Tapper blames certain ‘elected officials’ and ‘TV anchors’ for attack on Paul Pelosi

The spin on the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband in his San Francisco home that left him seriously injured shows that Democrats and their media allies fully intend to use the incident as a key component of their closing argument in the remaining days before the midterm elections.

While much remains murky as to the motivation of the man who bludgeoned Paul Pelosi with a hammer as well as the nature of the relationship between the two, CNN hit the ground running on the narrative that the conservative media, certain Republican politicians and Trump supporters are at fault for the shocking assault.

Even though there have been no details released that the attack was politically motivated other than the CNN quoting of an unnamed source who told reporters that the assailant who has been identified as 42-year-old David DePape, allegedly shouted “Where’s Nancy?” and reports of his online activity, Tapper linked the incident to the so-called January 6, 2021 “insurrection,” which polls show is not a high priority with voters.

“It is hard to ignore how much of the suspect’s rhetoric today echoes what we heard from rioters who stormed the Capitol,” Tapper said as he played a smartphone video of J6 protesters, one saying “Where the f*** is Nancy?” and other similar snippets.

Tapper then referred to a Friday tweet from outgoing Rep. Adam Kinzinger, the Illinois Republican who like his fellow J6 committee member Liz Cheney, is beloved by the corrupt media which celebrated them as heroic figures for their hatred of Trump.

“I’m waiting for the police briefing, but i want to be clear: when you convince people that politicians are rigging elections, drink babies blood, etc, you will get violence. This must be rejected,” he wrote. “This is why the Jan 6th committee is so important.”

Tapper followed it up with a clip of Rep. Karen Bass, a California Democrat running to be the next mayor of Los Angeles who depicted the Pelosi incident as a danger to “our democracy” and attacked Republican lawmakers who haven’t fallen in line behind her party’s J6 narrative.

“This horrifying act of violence today, I wish I could tell you it was s an outlier. It’s not. It is the inevitable product of a poisonous political climate where unchecked lies and hate-filled dehumanizing rhetoric combine to create a perfect storm of political violence,” Tapper said, citing the results of a Washington Post poll that a third of respondents felt that it was justified to use violence against the government followed by a few cherry-picked threats to politicians.

Tapper did attempt to balance out his monologue with a few references to leftist violence including the Bernie Sanders supporter who gravely wounded Rep. Steve Scalise when he tried to massacre the entire Republican congressional baseball team on a practice field in 2017 and the California man who this summer traveled to the Maryland home of conservative Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh with the intent to murder him, mixing in footage of legendary newsman Walter Cronkite’s coverage of the 1960’s assassinations of the Kennedy brothers and Martin Luther King for effect.

“We’re at a moment right now of extreme polarization, where calls to violence are leading to actual violence,” he continued. “We cannot pretend that these are all isolated, fringe events.”

“There are people in mainstream, accepted society, elected officials, TV anchors, others, who have been creating a permission structure that is helping to open the door to this violence, a permission structure created when they dehumanize opponents or smear them or belittle or make light of acts or threats of violence against their perceived foes or spread conspiracy theories,” he said, not naming names but if he did, no CNN or MSNBC anchors or Democrat elected officials who sanctioned political violence during the BLM-Antifa riots would likely have been included.

“And while it might feel as though the political divides of the present are too vast to bridge, now is the moment that we all need to stop and think about our common humanity or at the very least the basic golden rule and how you want to be treated,” Tapper concluded.
