Hundreds of leftists sign letter demanding that publisher CANCEL Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s book deal

In more proof that inside every liberal, there is a fascist screaming to get out, hundreds of left-wing members of the literary community have signed onto a letter demanding that a publisher cancel its book deal with conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

The open letter which has been signed by nearly 500 people is calling for Barrett’s $2 million agreement with Penguin Random House to publish her upcoming memoir to be torn up as resentment over the overturning of the abortion rights landmark ruling Roe v. Wade continues to fester with an American left that has increasingly come to resemble the totalitarian communists of the old Soviet Union.

Beginning with the ludicrous claim that “we care deeply about freedom of speech,” the letter goes on to browbeat the publisher into denying Coney Barrett the right to exercise her own right to free speech by couching their argument to rescind the deal on the premise that her vote in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization represents a violation of parent company Bertelsmann’s Code of Conduct.

“We recognize that harm is done to a democracy not only in the form of censorship, but also in the form of assault on inalienable human rights. As such, we are calling on Penguin Random House to recognize its own history and corporate responsibility commitments by reevaluating its decision to move forward with publishing Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s forthcoming book,” according to the letter.

The letter goes on to accuse Coney Barrett and her fellow conservative justices of “dismantling protections for the human rights to privacy, self-determination, and bodily autonomy along with the federal right to an abortion in the United States” and uses the United Nations and a prominent left-wing NGO as the authorities to justify their censorship demands.

“International human rights organizations widely recognize abortion access as a fundamental human right and have condemned the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision. In fact, Human Rights Watch—founded by Random House’s second publisher, Robert L. Bernstein, who held nascent meetings in Random House’s offices— notes that “the human rights on which a right to abortion access is predicated are set out in the [United Nations’] Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” a document to which Penguin Random House parent company Bertelsmann commits itself in Section 2.2.1 of its Code of Conduct,” the letter reads.

“Therefore, we believe that moving forward with Coney Barrett’s book places Bertelsmann and Penguin Random House both in direct conflict with their own Code of Conduct and in violation of international human rights,” the petitioners state. “This is not just a book that we disagree with, and we are not calling for censorship,” the tantrum-throwers insist in their missive to the publisher demanding that it censor the Trump appointee.

“Coney Barrett is free to say as she wishes, but Penguin Random House must decide whether to fund her position at the expense of human rights in order to inflate its bottom line, or to truly stand behind the values it proudly espouses to hold,” the letter says. “We the undersigned have made the decision to stand by our duty of care while upholding freedom of speech. We cannot stand idly by while our industry misuses free speech to destroy our rights.”

The Orwellian idea that free speech must be censored to save it is truly a sign of today’s twisted times in which the left runs roughshod over the constitutional rights of Americans by deferring authority to unelected globalist bodies that are overtly hostile to longstanding American principles.
