Jayapal ‘personally approved’ explosive Ukraine letter to Biden, sources report

The leader of the Democratic Congressional Progressive Caucus signed off on a controversial letter to President Joe Biden urging him to consider using diplomacy to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine which could spiral out of control into nuclear Armageddon, a request that has ignited a civil war within the party only two weeks before the midterm elections.

Outrage erupted after the news broke of the existence of the letter which came weeks after socialist diva Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was shouted down by protesters during a town hall over her support for Ukraine. The caucus then withdrew the letter with Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) who chairs the unruly group of misfits blaming her staff for its release, a total disaster for House Democrats who are clinging to one-party rule by their fingernails.

“The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting. As Chair of the Caucus, I accept responsibility for this,” Jayapal said in a statement, withdrawing the letter after it ignited a firestorm.

As if the feckless walking back of the letter and throwing staffers under the bus wasn’t bad enough, it just got much worse with Politico reporting that Jayapal herself had “personally approved” the letter to Biden, a major blow to the ambitious leader who has positioned herself as a challenger to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s authority.

On Tuesday after the letter was formally withdrawn, the outlet reported: “A source familiar with the situation told Politico that Jayapal personally approved the letter’s release on Monday. Spokespeople for the Progressive Caucus and Jayapal’s personal office, asked for comment, referred back to the group’s statement without denying Jayapal’s direct involvement.”

The idea that a control freak like Jayapal would allow such an important letter to be sent without her authorization has some expressing skepticism, including an unnamed former staffer who “worked closely with her office” and who is quoted by Business Insider.

“I would be shocked if they hit send on that release without her knowing,” he wrote. “Everyone who has worked with her office knows that she keeps a tight grip on media relations. She has held up press releases over small edits and delayed letting staff hit send while she reworks language – though delaying a release by three months would be a new record.”

The Hill quoted another skeptic, a Dem strategist who “works on progressive down-ballot campaigns.”

“Jayapal can blame her staff all she wants, but this is a small part of a long record of poor leadership and management of the Progressive Caucus,” the strategist said. “I look forward to next year’s Progressive Caucus election.”

For Jayapal, whatever cynical political calculus may have been the motivation for the letter was obliterated by the blowback and the India-born Seattle socialist was dragged from one end of Twitter to the other.

Even more than vaccine mandates, lockdowns, abortion, amnesty for illegal aliens, and the sexual mutilation of children, unflinching support for Ukraine is the official position of the Democratic Party, and Jayapal’s self-immolation by going rogue is an impressive act of political suicide.
