Shameless Charlie Crist tries to paint DeSantis as lockdown-loving dictator, forgets the internet is forever

Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.) has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017. He was also governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011, while identifying as a Republican. None of that experience has served him well enough in his run for another term as governor. The man who lost to Rick Scott in 2014 is still all too willing to make silly accusations and reverse his own positions.

Here he is hurling an accusation that would be a lot more appropriately thrown at Democrats from coast to coast, including himself.

Clay Travis, sports journalist and founder of OutKick, included video in his tweet on the subject. The one who uses video is usually the one with more confidence that his point is supported by evidence.

“You’re the only governor in the history of Florida that’s ever shut down our schools,” said Crist, who then repeated the charge with regard to businesses.

“I never did that as governor,” added the repudiated one-termer who didn’t serve during a ‘pandemic’. “You’re the one who’s the shutdown guy.”

So, Democrats (in Florida, at least) are now officially running away from the lockdowns they championed? That’s interesting. It’s perhaps comparable to the Democrats who are running away from their ‘defund the police’ bona fides, now that crime and public safety is a top issue.

Crist continued his screed, “We need to have somebody who is at the helm that understands it’s important to listen to science, to do what’s right, to utilize common sense. You don’t just shut down at the outset, and then when it’s politically convenient for ya, you wanna open back up to score political points.”

What would Charlie Crist know about listening to science or taking a principled stand on something? Abortion? CRT? Inflation? The economy? Watch the debate and decide. In any case, he certainly did not “listen to science” on vaccines, masks, and lockdowns.

Here’s some more verbiage from the candidates talking about the Covid-19 response.

Crist has been a chameleon during his opportunistic career. A flip-flopper. This exchange on Covid lockdowns is a glittering example, as one Twitter user convincingly points out:

Here is a less pithy example of Crist on the opposite side of the point he’s trying to make now:

When it was popular, Crist was a proponent of lockdowns.

Boom. Roasted. Consider yourself fact-checked, Chuck.
