Man upset over botched chicken order sets himself on fire while torching NYC restaurant

A suspect who was caught on video allegedly trying to set fire to a New York City restaurant over a supposedly botched order is back out on the street.

His quick release from custody after a bust prompted by a two-week investigation and manhunt by the NYPD and the city’s Fire Department seemingly appears to be another outcome of so-called bail reform that far-left Democrats, who are in control of the state legislature, enacted.

Authorities recently announced the arrest of the suspect, who allegedly was not happy about his meal, on charges of arson in the third degree, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief.

Cops claim that the disgruntled customer, 49, allegedly confessed to trying to torch the Bangladeshi restaurant in the borough of Queens at about 6 a.m., on the morning after the dispute, the New York Post reported, in the incident that also involved adult beverage consumption.

“I was very drunk. I bought chicken biryani. They didn’t give me chicken biryani. I was mad, and I threw it out…I bought a gas can, and I threw it at the store to try to burn it out. I lit it up, and boom, it got on me,” he told investigators, according to the Post.

According to Fox News, “Security camera footage shows a man suspiciously eyeing his surroundings before dousing a flammable liquid over the restaurant’s storefront. Seconds later, the suspect crouches down to ignite the fire, causing an explosion.”

The eatery reportedly suffered property damage in the range of $1,500 to $10,000.

Watch the surveillance video:

A waitress described what happened from the eatery’s standpoint, and this version is a lot different. And apparently merely requesting a refund was not part of the conversation.

“He ordered chicken biriyani and the people here behind the counter they take his order and when they bring it to him…He yells, ‘what is this?’ They say, ‘your order, chicken biriyani,’ and he throws it in their face!”

In general, the crime epidemic prompted by catch and release is a reason why GOP U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin has a chance to be elected governor in the deep blue state which is otherwise in the grip of the woke Democrat machine.

Fed-up NYPD officers are also retiring in droves because of the liberals’ soft-on-crime policies resulting in the widespread decay in the quality of life for law-abiding city and state residents, including those hard-working individuals who own or are employed by small businesses, such as restaurants.

Democrat Eric Adams was elected NYC mayor (after winning the Dem primary, which essentially cinched the general election for him) in large part on a law-and-order platform.

So far, he seems more interested in enjoying Big Apple nightlife rather than coming to grips with violent street crime, which would include convincing legislators in his own party to reform bail reform.

“Since the charges are not bail eligible under the state’s controversial criminal justice reforms, and the suspect had no prior criminal history, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said they asked for the strictest form of supervised release, which a judge granted,” the Post explained about the status of the alleged arsonist.

“He sets a store on fire, he planned this, why is he out the next day?” a NYPD cop lamented to the news outlet.

The suspect is due back in court in mid-December.

Note: All suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.

As an aside, the description of chicken biriyani/biryani, or any of its variations, seems delicious, so the suspect’s beef, as it were, seems even more unclear.

“It is essentially a dish that is packed with layer upon layer of spiced protein and/or vegetables, along with fluffy rice, fragrant spices, and fried onions. Biryani is known all around the world for its fragrant smell, delicious flavors, and intensely aromatic ingredients,” a cooking website called Ruchi’s Kitchen explained.
