If Republicans regain control of the House of Representatives in the midterm elections as many are predicting, Rep. Kevin McCarthy will be in line to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker despite his often feckless ways and one prominent conservative lawmaker has allegedly already put him on notice.
According to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, there will be dissension in the ranks if McCarthy goes easy on Democrats who under Pelosi’s reign have abused their power against both colleagues and ordinary Americans and need to be held accountable for their actions, most importantly to send a message that their petty tyranny is unacceptable in a free country.
“There’s going to be a lot of investigations,” the tenacious Georgia Republican is quoted in the New York Times. “I’ve talked with a lot of members about this.”
In the long article which is adapted from the upcoming book by New York Times Magazine reporter Robert Draper entitled “Weapons of Mass Delusion: When the Republican Party Lost Its Mind,” he writes that he spoke with the congresswoman multiple times over several months and writes that in her view, McCarthy would essentially have little choice but to adopt her “a lot more aggressive” philosophy when it comes to President Joe Biden and other Democrats for “what she sees as their policy derelictions and for conducting a ‘witch hunt’ against former President Trump.”
Great discussion with @morningmika and @JoeNBC this morning about my new book (out tomorrow 10/18), "Weapons of Mass Delusion: When The Republican Party Lost Its Mind" @Morning_Joe https://t.co/cyZZLfb942

Draper wrote that Greene “predicted in a flat, unemotional voice” that “I think that to be the best speaker of the House and to please the base, he’s going to give me a lot of power and a lot of leeway,” of McCarthy. “And if he doesn’t, they’re going to be very unhappy about it. I think that’s the best way to read that. And that’s not in any way a threat at all. I just think that’s reality.”
While the article draws heavily on reinforcing the official establishment narrative about the so-called “insurrection” and Greene’s alleged role in it, there is no disputing that the 48-year-old lawmaker has become a powerful force within the MAGA base of the Republican Party, having taken everything that Democrat operatives and far-left domestic terrorists have thrown at her, including a failed attempt to disqualify her from the ballot to prevent her from running for reelection, to “swatting” her home, putting herself and her family in grave danger.
With “Weapons of Mass Delusion” hitting bookshelves on Tuesday, Draper has been hitting the leftist media circuit to pimp his new book which Amazon describes as “The disturbing eyewitness account of how a new breed of Republicans—led by Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and Madison Cawthorn—far from moving on from Trump, have taken the politics of hysteria to even greater extremes and brought American democracy to the edge.”
The author was warmly welcomed to Monday’s edition of “Morning Joe” on MSNBC where he sought to pump up sales by portraying Greene and America First Republicans as a danger to “democracy” for expressing the belief that Democrats would cheat if that’s what it takes to win elections.

Regardless of the sensationalism in Draper’s book, all eyes are going to be on McCarthy and whether he’s too squeamish to do what’s necessary to hold Biden and the Democrats accountable for their anti-American, and decidedly undemocratic, actions.
And Greene isn’t one who will refrain from putting the cattle prod to the prospective next Speaker if he gets squeamish.
