Dem candidates clamoring for Jill Biden’s support, less ‘offensive’ and ‘polarizing’ than Joe

Democrats are scurrying ahead of November’s midterm elections, clamoring for support from the White House, hoping for a Biden to join them on the campaign trail, but they aren’t looking to the “polarizing” and “offensive” President with “baggage.”

Democrats clearly seem to prefer first lady Jill Biden over creepy Uncle Joe.

Campaigning Democrats are asking for Jill Biden in record numbers, according to reporting by The New York Times.

“Jill Biden’s weekend included five flights, 11 events and three appearances with Democrats who all requested her help ahead of the midterm elections,” the Times reported. “With President Biden’s job approval hovering at about 40 percent at a moment when Democrats are struggling to hold on to the House and Senate, Dr. Biden has become a lifeline for candidates trying to draw attention and money but not the baggage that an appearance with her husband would bring.”

With an abysmal approval rating amid record inflation, climbing gas prices, and a looming confrontation with Russia, many have asked “how effective could the president be on the campaign trail?” Jill Biden’s travel calendar is a clear answer.

“She does not offend people in a way that a president can because she’s much less polarizing and political,” said Michael LaRosa, a communications strategist and the first lady’s former press secretary. “It’s why she was sent all over rural Iowa and New Hampshire during the campaign and why she can go places now that the president can’t.”

According to a senior White House official, Jill Biden is the most requested surrogate in the administration. While first ladies often step in to help, Jill Biden’s role is outsized in comparison to her predecessors Melania Trump and Michelle Obama.

The East Wing under Jill Biden, 71, is completely intertwined with the political efforts of the West Wing, said Lauren A. Wright, who has written extensively on first ladies and their roles within the administration.

“This role has become so serious and political,” she said. “It must be part of the strategic White House planning and effort. Otherwise you’re wasting opportunities.”

Jill Biden isn’t solely a morale boost. The first lady is using her appeal to grassroots voters as a fundraising mechanism for struggling candidates.

People are more likely to donate if she’s asking, according to a spokeswoman who works for the Democratic National Committee who was not authorized to speak publicly. “Her events, emails, text messages and mailings have drawn millions of dollars for Democrats,” the Times reported.

Reporters pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean- Pierre on whether candidates in swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Ohio had requested an appearance from the president.

“[President Biden] has plans to be in Pennsylvania and Florida, but behind closed doors with two of the Democratic candidates,” one reporter said Monday during the morning briefing. “There’s a White House office of political affairs. Have they been getting phone calls from candidates in some of those other states — Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan – to say, we’d love to have the president come?”

Jean-Pierre stumbled before replying that she didn’t have anything definitive to share.

“I don’t have any calls to read out,” Jean-Pierre responded. “We don’t have any calls or personal conversations to read out.”

While many prefer Jill Biden over creepy Uncle Joe, not everyone is smitten with the teacher. She was reportedly booed by 70,000 Philadelphia Eagles football fans on Sunday during an appearance to raise awareness about Cancer Moonshot, a campaign that aims to reduce cancer death by at least 50 percent over the next 25 years.

Former Philadelphia Eagles tight end and “The Bachelorette” contestant Clay Harbor tweeted the fans’ reaction to the first lady.

Sports reporter John McMullen chimed in with “FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden gets booed. Being an ‘Eagles fan’ didn’t save her.”
