‘There’s no f-ing room’: Airline passenger ‘WEDGED’ between two ‘obese people’ demands ‘reparations’

In a semi-satirical Twitter riff to her approximately 300,000 followers, a self-described Australian/American political commentator unsuccessfully tried to stop the spread, as it were, on a recent American Airlines flight from New York to Dallas, and wants “reparations” for the ordeal.

“I am currently – literally – WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight. This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine. But it is something else entirely when I’m stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours,” Sydney Watson explained, with image receipts, on the social media platform earlier this month.

As the low-key battle of the bulge, so to speak, continued, Watson rage-tweeted (her term) that “I don’t care if this is mean. My entire body is currently being touched against my wishes. I can’t even put the arm rests down on either side because there’s no f—-ng room. I’m sick of acting like fatness to this extent is normal. Let me assure you, it is not.

(*Warning for language)

“I’m so f—-g mad I don’t even have words. If you need a seat belt extender, you are TOO FAT TO BE ON A PLANE. Buy two seats or don’t fly.”

“I said to the man, ‘hey, we can swap seats if you’d like to sit together”‘ (his sister is on my left) He says, ‘no. That’s okay :)’ …and then I started shrieking internally,” she added.

Watson claimed that merely trying to eat a sandwich under these conditions was challenging, to say the least.

Watson, who noted that the flight attendants were apologetic for what she had to contend with on the flight, made it evident that the American Airlines official response to her tweetstorm was unsatisfactory.

“Our passengers come in all different sizes and shapes. We’re sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight,” the carrier said.

So “I’m expected to have only a quarter of a seat when I fly?,” she wondered.

Watson claimed that she received a lot of negative feedback (as well as some playful responses) on Twitter, but she’s not backing down, or going squishy on getting squished.

“So we are clear — I stand by everything I said. And have come to find out what happened to me went against American Airlines own policies regarding overweight passengers. I’d like some reparations [please].”

She also declared that “I’m totally fine with being in the news for fat shaming.”

In a 23-minute YouTube Video on her popular channel, Sydney Watson concluded as follows:

I guess my primary takeaways from all of this is that (A), I’m not sorry for what I said, and anybody who took exception to the way I articulated it, well, sorry, you don’t have a sense of humor. And again, I think that the way I reacted is how the vast majority of people in the population would react. (B) If you are an overweight person and you are considerate of other people, I think you’re wonderful, and I think that’s kind of you to do. And thank you for making those choices, because this is how flying becomes less awful…

And (C) the fact that this is considered fat shaming, or the fact that this is considered offensive and inappropriate, really speaks to how regressive we are as a society. It means that well, the left, and all these other groups of people, all these fat-positive people, are probably the ones crying about consent all the time. They’re the ones who complain about choices being taken away from them. Well, I didn’t have a choice in the situation that just happened to me. I didn’t consent to being touched for hours on end. I didn’t consent to having no personal space…And the fact that I’m somehow the bad guy because I took exception, because I said something, really speaks to how completely deranged we are as a society…
