Kari Lake to Dem opponent: ‘I’ll debate you on ‘The View,’ let Joy Behar and Whoopi ask the questions’

America First superstar Kari Lake says she is even willing to debate her Democrat opponent in likely the most hostile environment possible: The mean-girl-dominated, ultra-liberal chat show known as “The View.”

In the course of the campaign, Lake, the GOP’s gubernatorial nominee in Arizona and perhaps the best orator in the MAGA movement, has been trying to get Katie Hobbs, her rival and incumbent secretary of state (the official who is supposedly in charge of elections), to agree to a debate on TV.

Previously, Lake, who has vowed to clear her high-energy campaign schedule to allow for a Katie-vs.-Kari one-on-one, has even offered to let Democrat Hobbs and her handlers write the questions.

The Trump-endorsed Lake, who is well-known for sparring with the liberal media on the campaign trail to the delight of conservatives and free-speech advocates generally, is now willing to meet Hobbs in what would be a 3-on-1, interruption-filled encounter.

In a joint Blake [Masters] and Lake rally, Lake, 53, issued this challenge to a cheering audience of supporters:

“In case she’s watching, Katie, I will debate you on a stage, I will debate you in a parking lot, I will debate you in a library, I will debate you in a bar, I will debate you in a car. I will debate you on CNN; I will debate you on MSNBC. I’ll even debate you on ‘The View,’ and let Joy Behar and Whoopi ask the questions. Show some courage….”

Watch:

Even former Obama operative David Axelrod has grudgingly acknowledged that Kari Lake has skills.

“If you get a candidate who has the performance skills of a major market local TV anchor and the philosophy and thinking of Steve Bannon, that’s a potent and dangerous combination…Look at Italy,” he told Axios, suggesting Lake was akin to recently elected Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a conservative populist candidate.

An op-ed in the Arizona Republic, a left-wing news outlet hardly inclined to be favorable toward so-called election denier Kari Lake, took Hobbs to task for “political malpractice” because “No candidate for governor has ever declined to debate his or her opponent in the 20 years the [Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission] and PBS have hosted televised debates.”

Hobbs has repeatedly gotten bristly when reporters ask why she won’t go toe-to-toe with Lake….I understand Hobbs’ reluctance. Lake spent 22 years as a TV news anchor. She’s a master in front of a camera; charismatic, concise and fully in charge. Hobbs, meanwhile, has a deer-in-the-headlights look about her and at times seems to have trouble directly answering questions. But she made the decision to run for governor – one that kept more eloquent Democrats out of the race…That decision to run comes with an expectation that you will square off against your opponent – that you will lay out your policies and defend them. That you will show up and show us exactly why your hard-right opponent would be a disaster for Arizona. Instead, Hobbs refused…Hobbs isn’t just letting down Democrats; she may well be letting down Arizona.

“If Lake wins the governorship, Democrats anticipate that her future endorsements will be sought after, that she will be giving fiery speeches around the country, and that she will have a standing invitation on Fox News,” Axios added, which is perhaps why the Democrats are so upset about her candidacy.

Parenthetically, Hobbs, 52, seems to have an off-putting, sing-song, girlish speaking style.

Could that be a reason she won’t, so far, debate?

Separately, in the video embedded below, Katie Hobbs appears to run away from a Project Veritas reporter, leaving a spilled cup of coffee behind, and then seems to hide in a restroom.

According to Real Clear Politics’ aggregate of seven polls, the candidates are practically tied. Internal data may tell a different story.

A Trafalgar Group poll from mid-September assessed Kari Lake with about a five-point lead over Hobbs.
