Border chief ignores Biden policies, says GOP busing migrants makes illegal crossings more enticing

U.S. Customs & Border Patrol chief Chris Magnus, a Biden appointee, appears to think that Republican governors — not the president’s policies — are to blame for the southern U.S. border being overrun by illegal aliens every single day.

Indeed, in an interview last week with the Los Angeles Times, Magnus complained that the GOP governors who are shipping illegal aliens to liberal enclaves like New York City are only incentivizing further illegal migration.

“It’s safe to say what’s going on is a pull factor, which is somewhat ironic given the criticism from some of these same governors involved in this about various pull factors that they claim already exist,” he said.

That they claim already exist? It’s not a claim. It’s a fact that President Joe Biden’s lax border policies are incentivizing illegal migration.

The CBP chief may think the opposite, but his underlings know better:

Magnus continued his complaints by pointing to how the bussing of illegal aliens to liberal enclaves is being advertised on social media by smugglers and traffickers.

“Magnus said social media is a strong influence, noting that it is enticing ‘when migrants hear that there are buses that will take them to locations where they are told they will receive benefits and jobs.’ Human smugglers use the same information ‘to further manipulate and mislead migrants,’ he said,” according to the Times.

Responding to these complaints, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s press secretary, Renae Eze, told the Times that the “bus mission” is designed to help communities that are struggling because of the Biden administration’s policies.

“Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, the Biden Administration needs to step up and do their jobs to secure the border — something they continue failing to do,” she said.

To be fair, the “bus mission” is also designed to teach Democrat mayors and governors  a lesson about what border states and cities have to contend with daily thanks to the southern border being wide open.

For years now, Democrat mayors and governors have stood silently by as the border has been overrun because of the president’s policies. Some have even instituted “sanctuary city” policies that critics say incentivize illegal migration far more than the “bus mission” of governors like Abbott.

Speaking of the incentivization of illegal migration, the Biden administration’s decision to nix former President Donald Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy [also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP)] has been blamed for a huge upsurge in illegal migration.

“In one of his first acts as president, Joe Biden suspended the MPP. The immediate result was the unprecedented surge of migration the country is now dealing with,” according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

“Nevertheless, in early June, the Biden administration unilaterally opted to permanently scrap this agreement with Mexico, thereby surrendering the most effective policy available to curtail mass illegal immigration,” FAIR notes.

The administration has also sought — unsuccessfully thus far — to eliminate Trump’s Title 42 protocol.

During an Arizona Senate debate last week, even Democrat incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly called the administration out for this attempt.

“I’ve been strong on border security. And I’ve stood up to Democrats when they’re wrong on this issue — including the president. When the president decided he was going to do something dumb on this and change the rules that would create a bigger crisis, I told him he was wrong. So I pushed back on this administration multiple times,” he said.

“You know, I told him he was wrong. So I pushed back on this administration multiple times. And I’ve got more money on the ground to increase Border Patrol staffing technology and where it makes sense to build more barriers,” Kelly added.

By “something dumb,” he meant the elimination of Title 42, according to NBC News.

Ironically, even the president’s foreign counterparts, namely Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, have blamed the illegal migration crisis on his policies.

“Giammattei said smugglers know it’s easier to get people into the U.S. illegally under the Biden administration as a family, and that smugglers have used children, whether biological or not, in order to get their clients across the border,” as reported in July.

“He mentioned the Biden administration’s effort to codify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which prevents migrants brought to the U.S. as children from being immediately deported, as exacerbating the problem.”
