Chris Christie suggested that former President Donald J. Trump’s criticism of the criminal investigation over documents taken during the FBI’s raid of his Mar-a-Lago residence last month is pushing him towards a “self-inflicted indictment.”

On Sunday’s edition of ABC’s “This Week.” the former Republican governor of New Jersey and failed presidential candidate expressed his opinion that Trump’s unwillingness to remain quiet while the weaponized Justice Department builds its case against him will only provide more motivation for prosecutors to indict him, subjecting him to a trail in a D.C. court with a biased jury pool, a prospect that his enemies have been salivating over.
During the round table conversation, Christie was asked by host and longtime Democratic Party toady George Stephanopoulos about remarks from ABC News chief legal analyst Dan Abrams who predicted that Trump will be indicted.
“Chris, you brought up the Court of Appeals and the special master this week, when you look at what is happening now in that documents case, do you agree with what we saw — what we heard from Dan Abrams, the chances that he could be indicted are probably increasing there?” Stephanopoulos asked.
Christie replied, “Look, I think these are all self-inflicted wounds by Donald Trump and you know, one of the things that I always say to clients are, you know, don’t out loud fight with the Department of Justice. Like, you know, we’ll fight in court and do the things we need to do.”
“He’s doing the exact opposite,” he said. “His lawyers aren’t fighting any of this in court. They’re really not. They’re not putting forward any of these arguments. He’s putting forward all these arguments on television. There comes a point where prosecutors are human too. And you want to keep daring them, they may just actually do it.”
“I still don’t think he’s going to be charged,” Christie added. “But I will say this much about what Dan said, the more you absolutely antagonize with nonsense arguments on television that your lawyers won’t make in court because they’re afraid they’ll be sanctioned if they do because they have no evidence, you’re pushing yourself closer to a self-inflicted indictment.”
“And I don’t want to see that happen just because I don’t think it’s good for our country, but he’s pushing himself in that direction,” he said.
“And we don’t see him making any moves to get off the campaign trail, despite what a lot of Republican leaders might want,” Stephanopoulos said, bemoaning Trump’s holding of rallies on behalf of America first candidates before the midterm elections.
In a message posted to Truth Social, the former president dialed up his criticism of the DOJ and FBI.
“This is a giant Scam, a sick continuation of the Greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. History. A complete Weaponization of the Justice Department & FBI, and includes Democrat D.A.’s & A.G.’s. Controlled by the same people that brought you Russia, Russia, Russia, Mueller, Impeachment Hoax 1, Impeachment Hoax 2, and more. The American people will not stand for “Weaponization” any longer!” Trump wrote.

Some might suggest that by admitting prosecutors may base their decisions on emotions, Christie just proved Trump’s point.
