Russian foreign minister blasts US in fiery speech for acting like ‘an almost-envoy for God on Earth’

Longtime Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov heaped scorn on the United States and its allies for seeking to “destroy” his country, further accusing America of acting like a dictator toward countries that threatened its political and economic dominance.

“Washington erected themselves into an almost envoy of God on Earth,” Lavrov told the U.N. Saturday through a translator, according to the Washington Examiner. “Name a country where Washington interfered by force and, as a result of that, life improved.”

Lavrov’s speech came on the heels of Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing that he was mobilizing approximately 300,000 army reservists for Ukraine and threatened nuclear escalation, the measures coming in response to Ukraine’s successful counteroffensive campaign, the newspaper reported. The Russian foreign minister reportedly criticized Western sanctions and dismissed concerns about sweeping up Ukraine’s eastern Russia-controlled Donbas region, as well as Kherson in the south, as part of the Russian Federation.

“People living there are basically only reacting to what was said to them by the head of the Kyiv regime,” Lavrov said, this being in reference to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy telling pro-Russian separatists in Donbas last year to leave.

He warned the U.S. it was “playing with fire” by interfering in China-Taiwan tensions, suggesting that “the collective West” would follow up NATO’s “spread” to the east by “subjugating” Indo-Pacific countries after NATO’s “spread,” according to the newspaper.

Playing the victim, Lavrov commented on a “grotesque” level of what he coined “Russophobia.”

“The official Russophobia in the West is unprecedented. Now the scope is grotesque,” he said. “They are not shying away from declaring the intent to inflict not only military defeat on our country but also to destroy and fracture Russia.”

The Twitterverse did not react kindly to Lavrov’s allegations.

Zelenskyy addressed the UN General Assembly on Friday via video link and demanded “just punishment” for crimes he alleges Russia has committed against Ukraine’s borders and its people, the Examiner reported.

“Ask, please, the representatives of Russia why the Russian military are so obsessed with castration,” he said, after the discovery of a mass burial site. “What was done to them so that they want to do this to others?”
