‘Just another day in NYC’: Ax-wielding man flips out in McDonald’s, trashes fast-food eatery

A man who got into a beef with three other men at a New York City McDonald’s after a purported failed pick-up allegedly trashed the eatery with an axe in a startling video that has received millions of views on social media.

In the early Friday morning incident caught on video, the man appeared to be stoically accepting blows to the face from adversaries with which he was scuffling as bystanders watched and filmed. He then calmly open his backpack and pulled out a hatchet and began wrecking the premises, including a glass panel, reportedly causing thousands of dollars in damages in the process.

In the footage, the axe man also appeared to be confronting some other customers, including a woman, in the lower Manhattan fast-food location. The suspect also apparently slapped a man at her table with whom he apparently had been previously fighting.

In describing what it deemed a “Big Mac attack,” the New York Post reported that “What started as a nothing burger — a 2:25 a.m. dispute between the suspect, Michael Palacios, 31, of the Bronx, and three other men — escalated into a rampage.”

Nothing good ever happens after two a.m. is a longtime recommendation (or axiom) that this incident seems to validate.

Fortunately, no one was harmed in the encounter. Authorities have reportedly charged Palacios, who left the restaurant on his bike but was arrested by the NYPD shortly after, with criminal mischief, three counts of menacing, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

GOP U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is running for governor of the Empire State, was one of a number of Twitter users who shared the disturbing video that another user described as just another day in NYC.

Watch and form your own conclusions:

In a statement, the NYPD explained, “Upon arrival of officers, witnesses at the location reported that the suspect got into a physical dispute with three unknown males inside of the location. The suspect removed an axe from his backpack and menaced the unknown males. The suspect intentionally caused property damage to the establishment. The individual was taken into custody by responding officers,” NBC News reported.

In a follow-up, the Post claims, quoting an Uber Eats deliverer, the fight started after a female had given the alleged axe man the brush off, as alluded to above.

“So basically he got into an argument with a girl, and then the girl rejected him. She didn’t want to talk to him. He kept going at her…that’s when the guys she was with stepped in and they started arguing. It all led to that,” the Uber driver told the news outlet. “He was drunk. He was talking to me; I can smell the liquor off him.”

In what purportedly is Palacios’ Instagram page, he shared a news video about the incident, and also claimed in the comments, among other things, that he just went to McDonald’s to get a diet Coke special.

In addition, he implied that cops alerted him that the video had gone viral on social media.

The owner of the Delancey Street McDonald’s told NBC that “The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority. We are shocked by these acts of violence committed in our restaurant, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation.”

Separately, about 200 miles to the north, a WWE hardcore-style brawl erupted in a Providence, R.I., nightclub the weekend before last.

“Police arrested and seized a ghost gun from [a 20-year-old man] after the fight spilled outside,” WPRI reported. Authorities shave allowed the bar to reopen “but with heightened security and no glass cups.”

Watch a report aired by WPRI:

All suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.
