DC Mayor Bowser: ‘We’re not a border town … We’re not Texas’

“Good Christian” Lori Lightfoot has finally said it. The migrant crisis was caused by the federal government, and the federal government must step up to address the results of its policy.

“This is a national problem, it needs a national solution, cities and states cannot be left to fend for ourselves,” she proclaimed from her pulpit.

Lightfoot has done the one thing everyone has been waiting for. She has shined the spotlight on the Biden Administration, saying essentially that “this is your problem.” A federal problem. Needing a federal solution. Democrat mayors and governors had seemed to avoid saying this, but Chicago is now on record saying it.

“This is not a new challenge for us. We need federal support. Resources, communication, and collaboration, and that has to come in short order,” said Lightfoot in her speech.

From these statements, though, a question naturally emerges from every listener: Then what in all the world is a sanctuary city?

If all illegal immigration is a national problem, then why did so many blue cities and states step up during the Trump Administration to say that they would handle the influx themselves and would provide shelter for these precious humans from the evil Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)? Puzzling indeed.

Did sanctuary cities and states make their commitment knowing full well that they didn’t actually have the infrastructure to follow through on it, or is this just a recent discovery?

Will the press ask Lightfoot any of these questions? Extremely doubtful.

Confronted with the hypocritical virtue signaling of being a sanctuary city and not wanting a few of the 2 million illegal immigrants pouring across the southern border since Biden became president and opened it up, leftist governors and mayors depend on the biased press to promote their nonsensical responses uncontested.

Demanding federal support in a sanctuary city for a few hundred migrants is not enough hypocrisy for the mayor of the third largest city in America. She also invoked Christianity.

“As a person of faith, I believe we must see God’s presence in all human beings,” Lightfoot stated. “That’s what being a good Christian is.”

It takes a lot of moxie for a lesbian mayor, whose administration sets criminals free and promotes abortion, to summarize the Christian life and purpose. She alludes to the fact that humans were created in the image of God without concern for God’s designs and expectations for his creations. It is wholly unclear why Lightfoot would want to bring Christian faith into this debate unless it is just another term she wants to redefine.

Notice, too, that the mayor corrects her inferiors by copying their actions. In Lightfoot’s reading of the Bible, being a faithful witness to all that Jesus did and said entails returning a wrong for a wrong.

Faced with a crisis of a couple hundred migrants bused from Texas, Lightfoot shuttled them to Burr Ridge, a suburb with a Republican mayor, which has not proclaimed sanctuary city status like Chicago has.

In related news, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) weighed in a second time on the busing practices of border state governors, accusing them of “trafficking” and “crimes against humanity.”

“It’s appalling that far-right politicians seem to have decided that fall before an election is their regularly scheduled time to commit crimes against humanity on refugees,” she tweeted. “Don’t normalize this. Lying to & trafficking people for TV and clicks isn’t politics as usual. It’s abuse,” she continued.

Lying to and trafficking people is precisely the result of Biden’s border policy, but that is lost on the dizzying intellect of the Bronx native.

And then this:

Just another student of history summarizing the history of US immigration policy in 140 characters.

All this while Vice President Kamala Harris says that the border is secure. The city where she lives and works, Washington, D.C., is run by the massively incompetent Mayor Muriel Bowser who, in response to receiving a handful of migrants recently said, “We’re not a border town… We’re not Texas.”

Does Mayor Bowser (or Lori Lightfoot, for that matter) think that being a border town means that you have the infrastructure to receive hundreds of thousands of illegals? Does she think it’s their very purpose for existing – the whole reason they collect taxes? Not to serve their legal citizens, but to provide for endless streams of humanity from impoverished countries like Venezuela. Is that codified somewhere, Muriel Bowser?

If you are looking for the president to be bigger than the situation and to inject some wisdom from the power center of our emerging Marxist state, you have come to the wrong place. Biden made a uniquely nonsensical statement on Twitter Friday, aimed at Governors Abbott and DeSantis:

Apparently, Biden thinks that Republicans don’t recognize any role for a federal government. He equates immigration control with abortion. What a brilliant mind! Wow! We just didn’t realize how smart he is and how lucky we were.
