LA mayoral candidate Karen Bass says home was burglarized but facts, items stolen raise questions

The alleged burglary of pro-gun-control Los Angeles mayor candidate Rep. Karen Bass’s home is raising questions because of several facts that seem to make no sense.

News of the break-in emerged early Saturday evening thanks to a statement from Bass.

“Last night, I came home and discovered that my house had been broken into and burglarized. LAPD was called, and I appreciate their assistance,” she said.

At this time, it appears that only two firearms, despite being safely and securely stored, were stolen. Cash, electronics and other valuables were not. It’s unnerving and, unfortunately, it’s something that far too many Angelenos have faced.”

The first question is why were only two guns stolen? In what world does a burglar forgo stealing valuable electronics and cash in favor of guns?

The second question is how in the world did the burglars get access to the guns if they were “safely and securely stored”?

Critics say these two facts combined seem awfully fishy, almost as if Bass made up the story for political advantage. Either that or perhaps the guns weren’t as “safely and securely stored” as Bass had claimed.

But the biggest question is why does Bass own two guns when she’s such an avid anti-gun zealot?

According to the the Notable Names Database (NNDB), an online db that “tracks the activities of people we have determined to be noteworthy, both living and dead,” Bass is decidedly “anti-gun rights.”

And indeed, the policy positions she’s espoused are very anti-gun.

According to On The Issues, she supports “restricting gun purchases & possession,” banning large-capacity ammunition, repealing “stand your ground” laws, and requiring background checks for every gun sale.

Moreover, when the Supreme Court struck down New York’s concealed-carry law over the summer, she cried foul.

“This ruling, handed down by Republican-appointed Justices, has the potential to impact the ability of some states to keep families and communities safe with responsible and reasonable restrictions on who can use a gun and when. Allowing more guns in public spaces will result in more gun violence. We must do everything we can to protect existing safeguards and implement new strategies to get guns, especially ghost guns, off of our streets and out of our communities,” she said in a statement.

“The obstacles to progress responding to violence we’ve seen as of late, as well as this horrendous decision put forward by the Supreme Court, are blatant consequences of past elections. We must redouble our efforts in the fight for safe neighborhoods and communities.”

Yet she owns guns? It seems hypocritical, critics say:

Also, during a recent mayoral debate, she somewhat downplayed the rampant crime affecting Los Angeles.

Asked whether she feels safe walking the streets of LA, she replied,  “I do feel safe. I would say a 10. I feel safe.”

In fairness, she added, “But I do understand that a lot of people around the city do not feel safe, and I respect that.”
