Trump legal team responds to ‘extraordinary’ DOJ request to torpedo special master

Former President Donald J. Trump’s legal team responded to the Justice Department’s legal filing that strongly opposed the appointment of an independent special master to review the documents that were seized in last month’s FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago.

The Biden regime’s unprecedented move, which many are expecting will result in an indictment of Trump for a trial before a stacked D.C. jury, could be tripped up by the findings of the neutral third party that was requested by the former president, a decision which is being considered by a federal judge in South Florida.

In its filing, the DOJ claims that the request for the special master is ‘unnecessary,” would be detrimental to national security, and more importantly “would impede the government’s ongoing criminal investigation” of Trump, an investigation that could take out President Joe Biden’s top political opponent before the 2024 election.

“The United States Attorney’s Office, has filed an extraordinary document with this Court, suggesting that the DOJ, and the DOJ alone, should be entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating its unjustified pursuit of criminalizing a former President’s possession of personal and Presidential records in a secure setting,” Trump’s lawyers wrote, according to Fox News.

“[T]he Government twists the framework of responding to a motion for a Special Master into an all-encompassing challenge to any judicial consideration, presently or in the future, of any aspect of its unprecedented behavior in this investigation,” Trump’s lawyers asserted.

Trump’s legal team also took issue with the picture of documents on the floor of Mar-a-Lago that was blasted out by media organizations on Wednesday, an image that many have suggested was staged specifically for publication.

“Even yesterday, the Government’s Response gratuitously included a photograph of allegedly classified materials, pulled from a container and spread across the floor for dramatic effect,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in the legal brief.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Hannity” on Fox News, Alina Habba who is one of Trump’s attorneys agreed with the host who said that the image was clearly “intended for public consumption,” saying that she has never seen Trump’s office in such a shambles.

“I’m somebody that has been in his office,” she said. “I’ve seen it, this is not the way his office looks. They give you this appearance that you walk in there’s these top secret documents just strewn about…”

“I do have firsthand knowledge, as you know. I have been down there. I’m down there frequently. I have never seen that. I have never, ever seen that. That is not the way his office looks. Anybody that knows President Trump’s office, he has guests frequently there. It’s just a joke,” Habba said.

“They literally must have gone in and taken out documents they wanted or cover letters as it is and put it about so that the public believes that this is top secret documents that were on his floor,” she added. “It’s ridiculous. I can tell you personally, it’s ridiculous. I’ve never seen that.”

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon will further discuss the special master matter in Thursday’s scheduled hearing.
