Imprisoned women’s basketball star Brittney Griner hasn’t gotten much help from the Biden regime outside of much lip service as she remains locked down inside of a Russian jail cell, but flamboyant former NBA superstar Dennis Rodman has announced that he plans to embark on a rescue mission to spring her from Vladimir Putin’s clutches.
The 31-year-old Griner, an 8-time WNBA all-star who was detained in February after being busted at the Moscow airport with hashish in her vape cartridges, was recently sentenced by a Russian court to nine years behind bars for violating the country’s drug laws along with a 1 million ruble fine, a punishment that will give her plenty of time to ponder her anti-American views unless Rodman is able to work his magic.
“I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl,” Rodman told NBC News at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. where he was attending a sneaker convention over the weekend. “I’m trying to go this week.”
Rodman was not specific about what he meant about being given permission or from who it came.
The basketball Hall of Famer drew attention and criticism over his previous dabbling in the realm of international politics over his bromance with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un who is a diehard basketball fan, traveling to the Hermit Kingdom where he hung out with the notorious leader in Pyongyang after he received a personal invitation from a man whom he referred to as a friend.
The 61-year-old Rodman has also made positive remarks about Putin, describing him as a “cool guy” during a 2014 interview with Fox Business after he visited Moscow, though he clarified that he was referring to the Kremlin kingpin on a personal level and that he “wasn’t talking about Putin’s politics.”
Twitter reacted to the news of Rodman’s diplomatic mission.
Crazy enough it might actually work 😐 https://t.co/wqWk1QYYEm

How Dennis Rodman became the face of American diplomacy & international relations is one of America’s great plot twists 😂 https://t.co/XuiN7Jqvjr

Let me guess, he’ll be hanging out with Putin as well. All for freeing Brittany but not propping up dictators.

How come your not staying in the country and advocating for all the people here that are in jail for pot? Is it because she is a WNBA player?

Why not? What could go wrong?!!!!

Whether Rodman’s diplomatic outreach can succeed where the U.S. government has failed – at least so far – he did take credit for the release of Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American Christian missionary who was convicted on charges of plotting to overthrow the North Korean government but was released in 2014 after the former NBA star’s appeal.
Travel to Russia for U.S. citizens is currently being strongly discouraged by the State Department which has Russia under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory.
“Do not travel to Russia due to the unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the potential for harassment against U.S. citizens by Russian government security officials, the singling out of U.S. citizens in Russia by Russian government security officials including for detention, the arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of Russia, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, COVID-19-related restrictions, and terrorism. U.S. citizens residing or travelling in Russia should depart Russia immediately. Exercise increased caution due to wrongful detentions,” the advisory reads.
Negotiations for a lopsided trade of Griner for notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, aka the Merchant of Death, along with former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan who has been imprisoned since 2018 as a part of the deal have reportedly been ongoing, but nothing has materialized yet; perhaps Rodman can make it happen.
During his playing career, the human rebounding machine affectionately nicknamed “the Worm” racked up five championships, first as a member of the infamous Detroit Pistons “Bad Boys” teams in the 1980s and then in a defensive role with the great Michael Jordan- led Chicago Bulls squads, also logging time with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks before he retired.
