‘No white kids represented’: 4th grade teacher boasts that she ‘built’ her classroom for ‘non-white students’

An elementary school teacher boasted that she was starting a new job in a viral video, for the first time working at a majority white school and that her classroom was “build for non-white students,” yet another example of the toxic influence of white liberal educators who are spreading their racist poison in America’s classrooms.

In the video clip posted by CRT watchdog Twitter account Inside The Classroom, the young woman with short reddish hair and oversized black-rimmed glasses explains what parents and kids can expect in classes that she teaches.

“For the first time in my life I’m going to be teaching at a majority white school and I’m kind of interested to see how, um, students and parents react to my classroom or if they even notice anything about it,” she began. “Um, because it’s built for non-white students, um, and what I mean by that is if you look around and you interact with some of the materials I have, you’ll, you’ll notice that there’s like no white kids represented…”

“I don’t think like my new students will mind but you know, not a single white face there,” she said. “Same with my coloring pages, I have a big stack of coloring pages that students can use and not a single one with a person on it depicts a white person or character.”

“Then, another thing is my classroom library,” the teacher added. “Of course, literature is kind of dominated by straight, cis, white men so there is a good deal of that in my um, in my books but it is overpowered now from all the books that I’ve been purchasing to add on to my library that depict a lot of diverse peoples whether it’s people of color or I have books on like non-binary, trans, otherwise LGBTQ characters, uh, so there’s just not a lot of  adherence to the status quo on just that like base level of my classroom.”

“So, I’m kind of wondering if, I feel like some parents might, might have something to say about that, if my experience with posh white parents in the past holds true for this year, we’ll see,” she concluded.

Twitter users definitely had something to say about her remarks and it wasn’t supportive of her teaching philosophy.

William Penn Elementary school has apparently deleted the Twitter account referenced by Inside The Classroom but a school by the same name posted the following to Facebook addressed to parents, guardians and community.

“Earlier this afternoon, a very disconcerting social media post from one of our employees came to our attention. The post addressed ideas surrounding inclusion and content for students. The post originated from a few months ago and was shared on the employee’s personal social media account and has since been removed. The employee has expressed regret for posting the content and has since apologized. We are currently in the process of investigating this matter to see if any district or state policies were violated,” the post reads.

“In the meantime, it is my personal commitment to our students and families to ensure every student feels safe and welcome within the classrooms of William Penn Elementary. Furthermore, it is inappropriate for any employee to make students feel unwelcome in any way, shape, or form. We are committed to working with and supporting our parents with respect to their vital role within our education system,” wrote William Penn Elementary Principal Dr. Nicole Higgins.

“As soon as our investigation is complete, we anticipate taking appropriate corrective action. The class this situation has impacted will receive additional information via email. We regret this has occurred and hope we can work to rebuild trust within this wonderful community we have the pleasure of serving,” she added.
