CDC director orders reorganization, admits failed COVID-19 response ‘did not reliably meet expectations’

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will undertake a reorganization designed to bolster public confidence in the massive bureaucracy that along with other major national institutions failed to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, an admission that comes after strong criticism of the agency.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told staff of the coming reorganization on Wednesday, an undertaking that was reportedly not ordered by the White House which, despite President Joe Biden’s campaign vow that he would “beat” the virus, failed to do so, resorting to threats and unconstitutional employer vaccine mandates that further undermined faith in the regime’s credibility.

“For 75 years, C.D.C. and public health have been preparing for Covid-19, and in our big moment, our performance did not reliably meet expectations,” Dr. Walensky said in a statement owning up to the agency’s failings. “My goal is a new, public health, action-oriented culture at C.D.C. that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, communication and timeliness.”

“I feel like it’s my responsibility to lead this agency to a better place after a really challenging three years,” Walensky told The Associated Press in a rare acknowledgment of government failure.

“It’s not lost on me that we fell short in many ways,” Walensky added of the response to the coronavirus. “We had some pretty public mistakes, and so much of this effort was to hold up the mirror … to understand where and how we could do better.”

“The steps announced on Wednesday grew out of an external review Dr. Walensky had ordered in April, after months of scathing criticism of the C.D.C.’s response to the pandemic. Its public messages on masking and other mitigation measures were sometimes so confusing or abruptly modified that they seemed more like internal drafts than carefully considered proclamations,” The New York Times reported.

“Her plan, which was also described in a video to the agency’s more than 11,000 employees, was short on specifics. But it was welcomed by at least some of the agency’s two dozen senior staff members, as well as by outside public health specialists,” according to the outlet.

“I want us all to do better and it starts with CDC leading the way,” Walensky said.

In addition to some changes in the chain of command to facilitate more reporting directly to Walensky’s office, streamlining reporting, and altering its promotion structure, the CDC will also work on the improvement of its messaging to the public, a major shortcoming over the last two and a half years of COVID and its variants and most recently, with Monkeypox.

Walensky’s big announcement comes after it was reported that the Biden administration spent over $25,000 to “coach” its flailing top health official in an effort to “keep her afloat” after a series of embarrassing public flops with media training and executive coaching, even though such services were available through the government instead of fleecing taxpayers to prop her up despite her dismal performance.

Twitter users reacted to the news with many expressing bewilderment that any changes didn’t include a change in top management at the CDC.

For the millions of Americans who have had their faith in the nation’s top health institutions shaken by the COVID response, it may be difficult to have that faith restored by some changes that fall short of a change at the top with Walensky, Biden and Dr. Anthony S. Fauci having suffered no consequences for their actions.
