‘Poor Jean-Pierre’ gets civics lesson after saying SCOTUS Roe v Wade decision was ‘unconstitutional’

Karine Jean-Pierre, the perpetually uninformed or ill-prepared White House press secretary, is getting roasted on social media for her lack of knowledge of basic civics.

Jean-Pierre, who (of course) has an Ivy League degree, claimed during a press briefing that the U.S. Supreme Court acted in an unconstitutional manner when it overruled Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs case.

According to Jean-Pierre, who seems to be fond of uptalk (i.e., an indecisive invisible question mark at the end of every sentence), “from day one, when the Supreme Court made this extreme decision to take away a constitutional right, it was an unconstitutional action by them, a right that was around for almost 50 years, a right that woman had to make a decision on their bodies and how they want to start their families…”

Watch:

The decision in the Dobbs case returned abortion regulation to each state to determine individually, as Kansas did on Tuesday.

As Justice Samuel Alito wrote at the conclusion of the 6-3 majority opinion, “Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”

In the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, the high court nationalized the abortion issue. In broad strokes, seven justices derived a privacy right in the due-process clause of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment to justify a right to terminate a pregnancy. Casey v. Planned Parenthood (1992) reaffirmed Roe.

In the name of reproductive healthcare, President Biden has signed a second executive order that asks the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to come up with regulations that apparently would provide Medicaid reimbursement for women who travel across state lines to obtain an abortion.

A previous executive order, among other things, expanded access to so-called medication abortion.

Biden, who has repeatedly denounced the Supreme Court decision and “extremist” MAGA Republicans who support it, has characterized the Dobbs decision as prompting a healthcare crisis.

The pro-choice, pro-life issue is a highly sensitive one that shouldn’t lend itself to talking-point pandering, superficial rhetoric or, shall we say, misinformation, as many on Twitter have implied after Jean-Pierre’s apparent attempt to channel her boss or the primarily Democrat abortion-on-demand cohort.
