Longtime Dem says pandemic opened her eyes as nearly 40,000 switch to Republican Party in Pennsylvania

As political tensions heat up and middle ground between the two dominant American political parties appears to shrink, one Pennsylvania mother explains why she abandoned 34 years as a Democrat to switch parties.

Beth Ann Rosica explained why she believes people just like her are staging a mass exodus from the Democrat Party, and she pulls no punches when explaining what her last straw was.

“I think the economy is huge, and I also think a lot of the school issues for parents across the state of Pennsylvania, it’s just been horrific watching what’s happened to our kids academically, socially, emotionally,” Rosica explained to ‘Fox & Friends First’ co-host Carley Shimkus.

Taking the morals to heart that she believed she shared with the Democrat Party, Rosica explained how she dedicated herself to helping underprivileged communities and aiding people in obtaining the resources they need. She said she thought this was what her former party was supposed to be doing, but their reaction during the pandemic proved that they simply don’t care about any of the talking points they spout.

“What I saw through the pandemic was that the Democratic Party basically abandoned all of those people,” she accused. “And so that was why I left the party, or as I like to say, the party really left me, and I think that a lot more people are really starting to see that.”

Endrias Micael has a similar story.

The son of immigrants, he voted Democrat until earlier this year, when he decided that the party simply wasn’t living up to the values they claim.

“I’m a part of a community called the National Council of Eritrean Americans, and what we committed to is mobilizing swing votes and people who consider themselves the fault of Democrats, people who the Democratic Party have not engaged with in quite some time or just have offered them failed policy after failed policy,” he said. So we decided to go from a grassroots approach and actually start meeting with Republican candidates.”

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s statistics, approximately 39,000 people switched their party alignment from Democrat to Republican in 2022. Compare that to the meager 12,000 people who swapped from GOP to Democrat.

It remains to be seen whether this mass exodus will have any effect on the state’s over-all political landscape, but for now it sends a stark message that things aren’t all sunshine and rainbows on the left side of the aisle.
