Why now? MSNBC explains why Hispanic voters are suddenly fleeing the Democratic Party in droves

Democrats may soon pay a very dear price for their intense focus on divisive “woke” politics that may greatly please voters in the deep blue coastal bastions of the cultural elite and the cost could be a fracture with Hispanic voters who are fleeing the party in droves, a development that could be a major factor in the 2022 midterm elections and beyond.

The potential loss of the historically reliable Democrat voting bloc has some sounding the alarm that Hispanics aren’t down with the party’s dragging the country farther in the direction of socialist regimes that have impoverished and repressed people in Latin America with the party’s high-profile figures such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clearly favorable to policies along the lines of Cuba and Venezuela.

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki sought to get an answer on why a growing number of Latinos view the Democratic Party in a negative manner today and on Monday’s edition of the far-left network’s coverage of the upcoming midterms, he sought the input of the American Enterprise Institute’s Ruy Teixeira to make sense of the great Hispanic exodus.

“One of the major stories to emerge from the 2020 election was the shift we saw in the Hispanic vote,” Kornacki said to viewers, noting that while Dems did win the Hispanic vote in 2020, it was significantly down in terms of percentage from 2016, a marked downtrend that his only accelerated as the party has become more openly radical.

He asked, “What’s going on here?”

Noting the “significant movement” that coincided with the administration of former President Donald J. Trump, Kornacki asked the left-leaning scholar, “Why did it start now?”

“Well that’s a good question and I think a lot of Democrats are asking themselves exactly that question,” Teixeira said. “I mean it seems almost hard to believe right? I mean Donald Trump? Donald Trump, the guy who said the things he did about immigrants and was, you know, borderline or actually racist in a lot of ways, at least in his pronouncements,” he added, acknowledging the drop in Hispanic support for the party.

“Something happened that’s sending them away from the Democrats, my theory is that that there’s a couple of important things here,” he said. “One is that I think Democrats assume that Hispanics, cause they’re people of color were sort of all in on this racial reckoning that we had in the summer of 2020 around George Floyd and that generally they can be treated as a group that is very, very sensitive to these issues of race, very, very sensitive to the kinds of the dialogue around that.”

“And sort of very sensitive on the issue of immigration, for example, which was something that Democrats always thought they had a big advantage on, and I think in the process, Democrats have lost track, of the fact that as I put it, Hispanic voters are normie voters,” Teixeira said.

“They’re voters who are concerned with upward mobility, with jobs, healthcare, their communities, their kids, you know, effective schools, public safety, these are voters who thought the Democrats could be relied upon to do a good job in those respects and who could be counted on even if they’re more liberal than the other party, not to be so liberal that it would turn off people whose values were significantly more conservative than where Democrats seem to be coming from,” he said.

It certainly didn’t help Democrats’ appeal with Hispanics when first lady Jill Biden likened them as a whole to breakfast tacos last month, an insult that many may not soon forget.

One of the brightest spots for the GOP’s increased appeal to Latino voters is Republican Rep. Mayra Flores who stunned the political world by winning a special election for a House seat in a Texas district that had overwhelmingly gone Democratic in the past while becoming the first Mexican-born woman to be elected to Congress.

She has been outspoken in her criticism of the opposition party’s condescending attitude toward Hispanics.

The head of the Hispanic advertising and rapid response effort for Trump’s re-election campaign, Giancarlo Sopo recently told Fox News Digital, “We’re aspirational people. We want to work hard. We came to this country to succeed. Also, I think during that same time, it would be fair to say that the Democratic Party’s overly educated or miseducated, depending how you look at it, you know, elites have taken over the party, and it’s difficult to find groups that are more different than a woke White Democrat and your average Hispanic.”

“They’re economically different. The social and cultural values are very different. Your average Hispanic tends to be far more religious and traditional in their cultural views than your average Democrat. So, I think if you understand the cultural transformation that we’ve seen on the Democrats, where they’ve become a lot more radicalized, and at the same time Hispanics… don’t just believe in the American dream. We personify it,” Sopo said, according to the outlet. “Hispanics are really succeeding in America, the Democratic message just does not appeal to Hispanics.”
