Ted Cruz schools smug Jon Stewart: Facts matter! Dems DID in fact poison veterans’ healthcare bill with unrelated pork

Smug racial essentialist Jon Stewart has been accusing Republicans of spreading misinformation about a bill, the PACT Act, but the evidence provided by Sen. Ted Cruz and others proves that he’s the one who’s been pushing bull.

The bill would specifically provide healthcare services to veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits while serving overseas. It was reportedly proposed in response to “Burn Pits: The Poisoning of America’s Soldiers,” a best-selling book written by military veteran Joseph Hickman.

But there’s a problem. After the bill initially passed with majority GOP support, Democrats corrupted it by inserting an accounting gimmick into it. This should come as no surprise given their history of pulling such tricks all the time, most recently with the exorbitant Build Back Better bill.

This is where Stewart enters the picture. As a far-left partisan, he believes the Democrat Party is infallible, and so when dozens of Republicans voted against the PACT Act this week because of the accounting gimmick — and because of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s refusal to adopt a amendment to remove the gimmick — he threw a temper tantrum via video:

According to Stewart, there is no gimmick in the bill. In fact, to hear him tell it, Democrats never insert phony gimmicks into bills.

Cruz responded with his own video in which he expressed support for the original PACT Act but politely argued that Democrats did in fact corrupt it with a gimmick. He even went so far as to explain how exactly the gimmick works.

“Jon, you’re a very funny guy, and I appreciate your engaging on issues of public policy. That’s a good thing. But if you’re going to do so, the facts matter. Listen … I voted for the PACT Act, and I’ve advocated for it for a long time. We have an obligation to take care of our veterans, particularly those who were wounded or injured from burn pits or in other ways from combat,” he said.

“The issue here is the Democrats included in this bill an accounting gimmick where they took 400 billion dollars of discretionary spending, they shifted it to mandatory spending. Didn’t change the amount at all. But the reason they did that is it created a hole for 400 billion in new discretionary spending. Their objective, they want to cram 400 billion dollars in unrelated spending onto this bill that has nothing to do with veterans. Now, given inflation that is skyrocketing, I think another 400 billion in spending is irresponsible.”

He concluded by revealing that Republicans had tried to fix the problem with an amendment written by Sen. Pat Toomey, but Democrats had predictably rejected it.

“We made very clear to the Democrats, to Chuck Schumer, that if they pass Pat’s Toomey’s amendment, and they just shifted the spending back to discretionary, kept it exactly at the same level but got rid of the hole for the unrelated pork, that this bill would have passed last week with an overwhelming margin. The Democrats decided not to. They wanted to play politics instead,” he said.

Listen:

But instead of acknowledging a single one of the senator’s points, Stewart responded with a smug, condescending, and rude rant on Twitter accusing Cruz and now even Jesse Watters of spreading misinformation about the PACT Act.

To hear him tell it, Democrats inserted no accounting gimmick into the PACT Act, and the only reason Republicans are preventing its passage in the Senate is because they’re evil, heartless, soulless monsters. Sounds like a reasonable argument.

Caution: Adult Language

There’s just a small problem. He’s wrong, period, and everybody sees it but partisans like him.

Joseph Hickman, the author of “Burn Pits,” certainly sees it:

So does Pat Toomey:

And so does A. G. Hamilton, formerly of National Review:

But remember, Jon Stewart, the funnyman “prick” who’s a proud racial essentialist and thinks the Supreme Court is the “Fox News of justice,” knows best …
